I feel like I need to brush my teeth after watching that.

I was hoping for for something in the vein of Lamorisse. Unfortunately this looks like something in the vein of, well, Bad Spielberg.

Well, there are some really amazing shots in it (especially the first one), but the longer the trailer went on, the more discouraged I felt. This feels like Spielberg after he lost his 70s sensibilities and before he gained his early 21st century edge.

I'm only critiquing the trailer...and I'm hoping this one, like many trailers, is misrepresenting what the actual feature is going to be like.

I actually was critiquing the movie. I'm glad this 222 character could see past my typo of accidentally writing "trailer" instead of "film I've never seen"

That's just soo unbelievably bad. I mean yes it looks schmaltzy and full of unearned sentimentality but you could cut a much better trailer just out of those materials. The trailer just sort of sits there and seems to want to INSPIRE you but doesn't do anything.

I love the Spielberg run of films from A.I. to Munich but between this, Tin Tin and the new Indiana Jones it looks like he's resigned from being a serious filmmaker. Hope I'm wrong.

Gorgeous, sweeping camerawork? Check. Lyrical and swelling John Williams score? Check. World War 1 battle scenes? Check. Tony award wining play? Check. I'm not that cynical when it comes to Spielberg. From a purely technical standpoint, I think he moves the camera better than anyone else in Hollywood. His shots are consistently inventive and thematically matched to the story he's telling. Sure, it's going to be sentimental. Spielberg is a Hollywood director in the grand tradition of emotionally manipulative, but impeccably crafted entertainments. Maybe the best currently living. He's also shown throughout his career that he's not afraid to take risks (and I was the first to say "A horse? Come on..."). In this film's defense, it looks like one of his passion projects. I'm much more excited for this than I am for Tintin (I'm getting more and more worried as its release date nears...please don't be as bad as Kingdom of the Crystal Skull!). Spielberg's a real filmmaker who doesn't use coverage and knows where his camera is going to be every confident step of the way. His skill is to be admired. I can't wait for this movie and I hope it's a return to form after KOTCS.

For some reason I hadn't even heard about this film/project until now. 8-[ Spielberg must be the harderst working man in Hollywood at the moment. Last few times that I've went to the multiplex, every second trailer before the screening had "produced by Steven Spielberg" credit and now he has two films coming out in the same month. Wow...

I dunno, it looks a lot better than The Crystal Skull (the low-point of Spielberg's career) or that Tintin bastardization.

Yes, this is his major strength, a skill so rare - and so rarely appreciated! - these days, especially outside of continental Europe.

I've really enjoyed a lot of new millennium Spielberg. Catch Me If You Can, War of the Worlds, Munich especially.

But I agree Indiana Jones 4 was bad, and TinTin looks just as.

So this really isn't grabbing me. And man, is that music working in overdrive to try to make you feel something. I hope its good. Never even heard of the play.

No joke the way they bring the horse (at least on the bootleg I watched, damn not living in New York) into the play is amazing and those animatronics are stunning, but the story itself honestly feels like a Spielberg cliche. It's like ET and Black Beauty in one, but sillier and more sentimental.

Considering how much I liked Munich, if Spielberg is going to turn to theatre, I wish he'd just do a bunch of collaborations with Tony Kushner.

I believe Kushner's writing his Lincoln project. Spielberg is a weird person. One of the only directors who does one for them, one for me just for the fuck of it. He could just make whatever passion projects he wants until the day he dies, but he still keeps propping up his box office.
