Criterion Cast posted Korda's Elephant Boy...
Sabu trilogy? Zoltan Korda two months in a row?

I could see them using Elephant Boy as a supplement on a mainline release of The Jungle Book.jwd5275 wrote:Criterion Cast posted Korda's Elephant Boy...

So I take it something like Tiny Furniture will be dumped in December (or later)?
I just can't imagine that being on tap for November.
Aside from what we know I'd be happy with Bicycle Thieves and/or Hiroshima mon Amour.

No, but I noticed the past few announcements that some of the two-disc sets that have been upgraded to Blu lose the "SPECIAL EDITION DOUBLE-DISC SET:" description from the Disc Features section. Both Ikiru and À nos amours have no mention of being a two-disc set under their Disc Features, so I figured I'd guess they are being upgraded.aox wrote:Has there been any hint to this release?dwk wrote:Ikiru

Sadly, The Royal Tenenbaums still comes up as a double-disc set.
However, oddly, the DVD edition isn't discounted at all on the site - they're charging a full $29.99. Not sure if that's an indicator of anything.

Ikiru is an obvious upgrade for Kurosawa at this point, I just figured Rashomon would be ahead of it in line.

Re: 'Forthcoming' Lists Discussion and Random Speculation Vo
Since two box sets are unlikely, and we already know about Three Colors, looks like the World Cinema Foundation box will be 2012... what was the last word on that, anyway? Is that even still a go at this point?
FIRST EDIT: RE the 2 disc set trend... Knife in the Water is no longer listed as a 2-disc set in its description.
SECOND EDIT: Same goes for La Strada.
THIRD EDIT: Carnival of Souls, too.
FOURTH EDIT: Richard III as well. Finished going through all the Criterion titles, and those are findings!

I would have thought we'd have Rashomon by now. I saw the Janus theatrical re-issue almost two years ago, back in October 2009.

Re: 'Forthcoming' Lists Discussion and Random Speculation Vo
Are we sure the 2-disc designation has been taken off *recently*? All the ones that people have mentioned as no longer being listed as 2 disc sets are also available as 1 disc EAH titles. Bicycle Thieves is *only* available as a 2 disc set.
Edit: Except A nos amours. So maybe there is something to it.

Re: 'Forthcoming' Lists Discussion and Random Speculation Vo
I just checked the archived view of Criterion's site from a year ago, and it looks like there wasn't any specification of Ikiru as a double disc set then, either

Archived view isn't always reliable. Often it defaults back to the page in present form.

Also, Criterion probably changed the archived view to throw us off the trail. It's a conspiracy!

Re: 'Forthcoming' Lists Discussion and Random Speculation Vo
Now that I think of it, My Dinner with Andre was in that picture with Salo, so it should be getting a blu upgrade this month or next. The first spine past 450 to get one...

Yes. If this hypothetical thing that has never happened happened, it would be the first time it has ever happened.

OK, what the fuck.... THIS is on the description for 'Rushmore'.
•New high-definition digital transfer of the director’s cut supervised by director Wes Anderson
What??? This can't be. And I'm pretty damn sure it didn't say this before.

A "director's cut" is already confirmed? That's news to me.

C'mon, if he took the time to read the post he wouldn't have been able to catch me with such a snide response.

Oh snap, touché. This is so exciting, though I wonder what Anderson has in mind to improve an already perfect little film.
