Though to be fair they've very successfully optimised the awfulness by adding that atrocious shade of blue and creating all that dead space.Jameson281 wrote:I remember a while back, there was a discussion about studios using original poster art for DVD covers, and I made a remark about how lousy UA poster art was in the 1950's. This is the original poster art, so I think this proves the fan adage that "original poster art is always best" is wrong.

The poster still isn't as bad as that cover. At least on the poster, the title is integrated better (with that 50's red strip we just don't see much of anymore), and the taglines hold the whole thing together. And yes, no awful blue.

How come Laura gets to keep her neck but Liam is denied? Also, I think the cover could stand to be a bit more "fiery". Maybe an anthropomorphic hot pepper wearing a sombrero, hiding behind the pillow.

Terrible, terrible cover. I mean, it's (more then usually) clear that the folks who design these studio catalog covers don't give a shit, and that their supervisors (amazingly) must think that the job is at least adequate. But perhaps they're betting (rightly?) that those who would intentionally purchase Under Suspicion would likely do so no matter how the artwork looked? Incidentally, am I the only one who will forever view Laura San Giacomo as the Satan's-baby-momma from The Stand?

At least the names are over the right faces. You almost never see THAT done right, even on good covers.

This was the only place to put it, the 'best' thread is more packaging-based than actual coverart

Maybe this should start the sequel to this thread --Worst DVD Covers...ever! (Part 4-D)
Four Dimensions of Greta (3D)

well it seems to be confused if it's 4-D or 3-D

This is an odd cover:

But it really needs a larger picture to capture the cartoony background nonsense.

Well, the Tony Scott versions would certainly be more interesting

I like the way that they use the only two explosions that take place during some of the very few action scenes to sell those films! (Clear and Present Danger is a favourite guilty pleasure - it does lots of scenes of bureaucrats talking intently in rooms very well, which works brilliantly when I'm in the mood for that sort of thing! And I've always liked the sequence that seems anticipatory of the Mission: Impossible films, in which Harrison Ford turns into a computer whizz to try and copy or print out incriminating information which the traitorous colleague in the other room is methodically deleting!)

Honestly, this is one of my favourite sequences from a 90's film.colinr0380 wrote:And I've always liked the sequence that prefigures the Mission: Impossible films, in which Harrison Ford turns into a computer whizz to try and copy or print out incriminating information which the traitorous colleague in the other room is methodically deleting!)

It is a pretty good sequence, and the moments Ryan spends looking for paper for the printer is wonderful icing on the cake. Surprisingly tense stuff. The movie is also a great reminder of the time when the underrated actor (and Alex Cox regular) Miguel Sandoval would appear in major movies on a regular basis.

Czerny was a great bad guy, and I have no doubt in my mind that's what got him the Mission: Impossible gig. The Columbian ambush is one of my favorite action sequences, especially James Horner's over the top score. This along with Red October are my favorite Jack Ryan movies.
