Will happily sacrifice the steelbook to get this for that price instead!
And ... back up to £12.93, dammit.

Amazon wrote:We are writing to inform you that the price for the item

Silent Running (1971) (Masters of Cinema) [Blu-ray] - Asin: B005DE1G2Y

was displayed incorrectly at the time you placed the above referenced order.

Despite our best efforts, with the millions of items available on our website, pricing errors can occasionally occur.

In our Pricing and Availability Policy (see http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/custome ... Id=1040614" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;), we state that where an item's correct price is higher than our stated price, we contact the customer before dispatching.

All affected orders have now been cancelled. If you still wish to purchase this item, please place a new order online as from tomorrow, which will be charged at the correct price, when we dispatch it to you.

Please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused by this error, and rest assured that we will continue to make every effort to maintain the accuracy of all prices on our site.

We look forward to serving you again in the future.

Not surprised and I don't blame them but it's kind of bad form to take so long to do this.

No kidding. I wish this was Amazon.com, they generally honor their prices if you complain about it- I couldn't get anything out of these guys at all.

I really do blame them for this, if a grocery store posts an incorrect price and you point that out to them they'll honor it. Amazon should suck up the loss.

Nonsense, I've seen plenty of brick and mortar shops not honor a price tag on their items. Mistakes happen. Sure, it's a huge company that could just ignore the potential loss and "suck it up". But to think you have a right to demand this is just wrong.

The problem with the Internet though is that word gets around to quickly and you get people who try and take the piss to the nth degree. In a bricks and mortar store the mis-price will usually be noticed after one sale and so the loss is minimal. One seemingly minor mistake online could cause huge financial damage to their business, especially to smaller e-tailers. Here they might be dealing with tens of thousands of orders and if someone placed an order for 1000 copies should they have to honour it?

If they were that worried about containing it, though, they could have acted faster- waiting weeks before abruptly cancelling people's orders suggests laziness and arrogance to me.

I can see where the 1000 orders thing becomes a problem, but I don't see why Amazon can't just cancel all but one order, or at the very least reinstate people's orders when they actively complain about it.

Depends on where you are. In some jurisdictions it's illegal for stores to use that form of (at least potentially) bait-and-switch price marking. I think that the law in Michigan is (or at least once was) that if the checkout auto-scanner rang something up for a price higher than the price tag labeling then the store was required to give it to you for something like 10% below the *marked* price. (There were some legislators who wanted to *really* discourage misleading price tags.)

Guys, you spent maybe two minutes pressing a few buttons after it was brought to your attention that a price on an item was so low that it simply had to be a mistake. You are out nothing, and Amazon owes you nothing.

The only issue I have is that it is done just before sending it out instead of when they corrected the price mistake.
I just had the same thing from Zavvi with one Kurosawa boxset.

You put a price mistake.
You correct it.
You know at this point it is a mistake, you know who have ordered with this mistake.
You know what you will do with it. So you send a mail at this point.
Not 1 or 2 months later.

This is the only issue I have. After that, of course, some could have made a nice Christmas present, and would have spread the good word about the movie and MoC releases good quality, and this is probably the biggest loss of these cancellations.

But otherwise, I really would have like to be warned when they corrected the mistake, not just a few days before the order is supposed to be shipped.

The pricing mistake was first reported on this forum only 3 weeks ago, and it took them a few days to fix it. It's still 2 1/2 weeks until Silent Running comes out. Anyone maligned by this grave injustice has plenty of time to make other arrangements.

I bought a whole group of items justified specifically by the Silent Running blu, which entered shipping and thus charged me as soon as they removed it. That account was dangerously near getting overrun, and now has absolutely no money in it. Which isn't that bad, but $2 more, and it would have been a nightmare they weren't in a position to fix.

Besides, what if other bargains on the title had come and gone unheeded, because I believed I had this one locked down?

Well, when you put it that way I can sympathize to an extent, though the moral of the story is that, when taking advantage of an obvious misprice, you should always assume that it won't actually go through. If it does, it's a nice windfall, but this certainly isn't something you should count on happening.

Of course, but I still believe that the right time to inform customers that made orders at this price would have been when they fixed the price.
I mean, it's not like they took 2 1/2 weeks to decide whether or not they would honor the orders.

Or maybe it took that much time to understand their policy, which is quite clear about what should happen (and has happenned) :

What we do about mispricings
Despite our best efforts, a small number of the more than 1.5 million items in our catalogue are mispriced. Rest assured, however, that we verify prices as part of our dispatch procedures.
If an item's correct price is lower than our stated price, we charge the lower amount and send you the item.
If a product's correct price is higher than our stated price, we will cancel your order and notify you of that cancellation.
Please note that this policy applies only to products sold and shipped by Amazon.co.uk.

In the end, I'm warned of this cancellation right when it is about to ship.
Now, I'm paying the shipping fees for 1 product instead of 2, and what was once interesting is now just plain bland. I can't cancel anymore because they told me too late and I will have to pay £17.19 to Amazon just for Narayama, when I could have it directly from Eureka at £14.93.

I know it's really a detail. But I really feel double-crossed by such type of process.

Also, I hope MoC can still adjust the number of discs made, because right now, with all these cancellations, I think they can lower their expectations.

Tenia, I'm glad you explained your gripe above. It's the same reason I'm a little frustrated, but didn't want to take the time to lay it out there for the holier than thou crowd above. I certainly don't feel "wronged" that they decided to cancel my order.

I never order from UK because of the shipping costs. I ordered 4 discs (including Silent Running), two of which have since gone out of print. Still seemed worthwhile, but when Silent Running cancelled this morning, I was charged nearly $8 for shipping for one disc, and wasn't able to cancel that item. Yay.

I complained to Amazon.uk about my situation, and after some haggling and a great deal of whining on my part, they agreed to waive shipping charges on the remainder of what I'd ordered. It may be worth seeing if you can get a similar deal.

Sorry if this has been answered already, but will the two Murnau blus still be region-free?

I'm glad they're offering Silent Running in normal packaging. The Steelbook was the one thing keeping me from ordering with Eureka. Well, that and Amazon hasn't cancelled my £3.99 preorder *knocks on wood with crossed fingers*

Is just under 15 pounds going to be the new sort of rough price point for the Dual Formats? It seems a heck of a lot harder to get a good deal on these releases then the Blus previous. The Antonioni's have been out at that price pretty much permanently everywhere apart from a brief sale at Moviemail several months ago.

The Hut has many Dual Format releases for £14 and with the 10% off voucher you can get them for roughly £12.5 each.
