That's awfully predictable of them, typically conservative.

That list doesn't really seem any more or less conservative or discerning than these ones for our forum (update coming in a couple months).

Although I suppose I can see the point that lists that introduce me to new things are more useful to me. There are some very good films on that list, but the ones I haven't seen were already on my to-watch list.

It looks like they're doing a separate feature of movies they feel were overlooked or under-reported upon tomorrow, which will hopefully be good for that.

To join on The Muppets rant, I've never heard any of these original song nominees, but I can't imagine any of them are as delightful as "Life's a Happy Song".

"Life's a Happy Song," "Pictures in My Head," and "Man or Muppet" all seemed likely inclusions. The Golden Globes are all about starfucking though, and you can't fuck a Muppet. They're hoping to get people like Elton John and Madonna to show up at their silly show. I think the Muppets will get their due at the Oscars.

Surprising to see Herzog movies on Rosenbaum's list, I recall him saying the only Herzog feature he liked was Aguirre and being fairly dismissive of his whole persona.

He talks about that in the broadcast - basically, he thinks Herzog's personality tends to overwhelm his films, but that wasn't the case with his last two docs, partly because of the subject matter.

He's always been fairly dismissive of Almodovar as well, so I'm pleased about The Skin I Live In.

Critics of the world, year end lists are pointless if you include re-released films in them, even if you hadn't previously seen them and/or there were distribution issues in your country x number of years ago when the film was initially released.

Glenn Kenny addressed this in his blog, and I have to agree with him - putting films like "A Brighter Summer Day" in a poll only helps. It gets the word out for films that deserve a wider reception. I remember discovering "Army of Shadows" that way when it topped the L.A. Weekly poll in 2006...I was living in the midwest at the time, and that film never hit the local theaters so I never heard much of it.
