Wow, just noticed Coppola's Rain People is also part of this "collection." Surely someone with a name as big as Coppola deserves a pressed disc for one of his early films? Especially one as brilliant as Rain People. I mean if we can get pressed discs of Boxcar Bertha (a pretty bad picture but one of the first by Scorsese) why can't we get a special edition of this one?

You're a Big Boy Now's in the Archives as well. For what it's worth, the Rain People is a real disc in France via their pressed not burnt Warner Archives

Interesting news this week: they are dropping dvd-r editions of oop titles Vision Quest and The Power of One that are--wait for it--in their O.A.R.s for the first time on dvd.

So is it wrong to expect upcoming along the same line announcements for The Great Santini, Star 80 and other vintage full-frame WB transfers?

I thought WAC mentioned, on their Facebook page, a couple of months back that it was their intention to release more of those, titles once MAR in their IAR, in the future so my presumption is that more will be forthcoming.

I wish WB would announce some of them for Blu-ray around the same time also if new 2k+ masters are being created.

I'm sure there are mistakes and/or oversights in the following list but I tried to use DVDAf and other sources awhile back to figure out which WB releases might have been MAR.

I was going to post the list in a spoiler, so that it wouldn't take up a large portion of the page, but apparently the spoiler tags here don't collapse the post so that it would just appear as the same size in a giant black box so that doesn't help. Apologies for the length if this isn't useful to anyone.

If I understand you correctly, there's going to be an OAR release of True Stories? I'm going to be terribly annoyed if that gets shunted into the Archive but it'd be worth it to see it properly framed

I'd spring for TRUE STORIES in its OAR in a second. One of my favorite films ever.

THE WORLD ACCORDING TO GARP is another one that the WB Archive will probably re-release.

It's a damn shame that True Stories never got a special edition release, clean versions of the songs on the soundtrack alone would sell copy for me- there's no way to get that version of Dream Operator anywhere afaik

What about Polanski's "Frantic"? I know it's been released as a Blu-ray twofer along with Pakula's "Presumed Innocent," but, frankly, I'm still only reserving my Blu-ray purchases for my absolute favorite films. Plus, I'm really not that interested in the latter film.

BTW, I had that old copy of "The Power of One," and it was in widescreen; it was one of those where WS was on one side of the disc and FS was on the other. Of course, since getting a widescreen TV I haven't watched it, so I don't know whether or not it was anamorphic.

Anyone know why only select title are available for download on their official site and not all of them? I think paying twenty dollars each for these (mostly) bare bones DVD-Rs is on the ludicrous side. And the titles they do have available you have to download and play using Windows Media Player? Warners needs to do a major overhaul. It would make sense for them to adopt a streaming subscription service like Hulu Plus to view their entire catalog. Thoughts? I apologize if these questions have been asked before.

Does any rental service carry these titles? Netflix does not.

Warner Bros. does what Warner Bros. wants to do. Same as it ever was.

Warner Bros. has launched their 'Warner Archive-Collection' in Germany as well. Like in America the titles are made on demand - i.e. burnt DVD-R's.

So far the only difference in all of the titles is the added german language track (of course) and some titles feature german and/or english subtitles that do not on the american equivalent, but that's only with some of the titles. In Germany those Warner-Archive-Titles are exclusively sold by amazon.

At least a few of those MAR titles have been on Netflix streaming in OAR for a while. I watched True Stories & My Blue Heaven about 1 or 2 years ago and both were widescreen.

Warner Archives 5 for $50 (and $10 for each thereafter) thru March 11. If Tall Story and Two Tickets For Broadway are eligible, for Christ's sake, add 'em to your order!

Re: rental of Warner Archives titles. My local video rental place, Video Americain, carries a bunch of them. So, if you live near a good video rental store (e.g., Scarecrow in Seattle), it might carry them.

As far as I know, Scarecrow Video has pretty much every Warner Archive title available for rent, and gets new ones in just about every week. (they also stock most or all archive titles from other companies)

If you're in Los Angeles, check out Cinefile Video. They stock a ton of WB Archive titles, and they've transfered movies that are not out on DVD anywhere to DVD-R's.

Movie Madness in Portland, OR also stocks the Warner Archive titles for rent, and even the Multnomah County Library has added some, though I don't know how many.

I've mentioned this in other threads, but the NY Public Library has a lot of the early WA releases (and scattered other MOD releases). Photoplay in Brooklyn has hundreds of MODs from all the labels, although it has the severe disadvantage of being in Greenpoint.
