Wow, all they did was highlight the eye image with their cursor.. Maybe they'll C+P something better inside...
That said, the Facebook re-do of the cover is somewhat of an improvement, although shoppers might wonder why John Malkovich took the Magic School Bus to a sunflower.

My feelings exactly: whether the fault is with Criterion or Jonze, this release, which had such potential, is shaping up to be an all-around disappointment.
For the first two covers, they used Helvetica but shaved off parts of certain letters (notice the g, l, k, etc.). Now we simply get Helvetica. I guess that's an improvement.
Sell sheet art isn't necessarily newer. In fact, it's probably an earlier attempt or mock up. I'm trying to think of it as a work in progress that still has a long way to go.

Bloody Hell, the Malkovich and Kiarostami covers are good. Beautiful, simple stuff, good typography, strong image. They both reminded me of Kubrick posters starting from A Clockwork Orange.
Now I get the BJM cover, and it's genius! It will be one of the covers that just has plain white on the inside and is thematically tied to the film because they can control John, you can control the packaging. The printed cover is an uninspired piece of shit on purpose so it doesn't inspire you ideas of what to do with the cover.
Agreed. I prefer the first one (with the subway style and sans photo) to the finished final product, but I'm just happy to see this title in the collection.
I like the final cover the best. I like the typewriter-style title treatment on the second cover the best but the final one is fine (I guess it is in red to signify the film is in colour? Or to suggest red corrections onto a script?) I'm particularly glad that they didn't go for the VANYA highlighting of the New York connection as shown on the colour picture cover!
