Good news for admirers of Adrian Tomine’s simply gorgeous illustrations for the Criterion two-DVD special edition of Yasujiro Ozu’s The Only Son and There Was a Father: the artist has joined forces with art and literary comics publisher Drawn & Quarterly to offer these elegant, poignant designs in new limited-edition prints (only fifty of each). And even better, it’s for a great cause: the proceeds will go to the Japan Society’s Earthquake Relief Fund. These two giclée prints, signed and numbered by the artist go on sale at noon on Wednesday, April 27, for $250 each; all orders will include a small, personalized original sketch by Tomine.
I received my Valentine's Day sale order on Saturday. I bought Blow Out and the Three Colors Trilogy on Blu Ray. When I opened the package the Blow Out case was cracked in two places and the Three Colors Box was ripped up, all the cases were cracked and the disc for Blue had the title Secret Sunshine on it and said it was a DVD. However when I put it in my player it was the Blue Blu Ray. I emailed Mulvaney a few days ago about replacing them but he hasn't gotten back to me yet. Has anyone else been experiencing problems with their Valentine's Day sale orders?
My two DVDs were fine, but the Eclipse set was crushed. The container was one of those parcels that you glue together then open by pulling the strip down the middle. Every order of mine until now was sent in an actual box so this was a surprise.
I pre-ordered the Shochiku Horror set directly from Criterion's website awhile back. It shipped on a week ago from Kentucky and the tracking info says that today it arrived at a USPS sorting facility in...Puerto Rico. I doubt that's the fastest route to Seattle. Has anyone had anything crazy like this happen with the post office before?

Which also ships from KY. As, unfortunately, more and more places seem to be doing these days, TCM Shop, Dead.net, Amazon sometimes, blah blah blah. My own personal "bag of hurt". Can pretty much count on bad news whenever something media-like gets shipped from them.
Anybody know whether it's possible to order a clear, 2-disc DVD (not Blu-ray) replacement case through the Criterion store (i.e., the ones in the figure 8 design)? All I could find for sale on the site were 1-disc Blu-ray cases.
Last year on 2/14 the Criterion Store had a one day only 'Valentine's Day Sale' where everything was 50% off. Is this an annual thing or does anyone know if that will happen again this year?
That's too bad. I do remember them having some issues with the site and it being difficult to checkout. Do you know if the one in September went any better? I didn't participate in that sale but maybe they were able to work out some of the kinks?
