Indeed, those "second features" on the Imamura double bills are a big deal, much like the lesser-known Ozu films buried on the BFI Blu-rays. I'll probably get around to buying some of both, mainly for the more obscure film.

The extra Imamuras were not available, but if you have the CC set, getting them means double dipping. "Sopralluoghi" is available in a truly excellent Italian release with English subs (which includes the best documentary on Pasolini I've ever seen, 2 hours long).matrixschmatrix wrote:Aren't both of the extra movies on the Imamura discs otherwise unavailable? Were Comizi d'amore or Sopralluoghi in Palestina, or the wartime Hitch shorts on Lifeboat available?

Re: MoC Forthcoming, Wishlist and Random Speculation
I'd preferably like a balance. I'm loving the titles that are coming out right now but my heart yearns for some Eustache, Uchida, A Page of Madness and Limite (in fact, any of the titles that the World Cinema Foundation released would be welcome!).
I think having 'minor' works as extras is a great practice. To me, they massively increase the value of the product as it feels like a '2 for the price of 1' deal or 3 for the price of 1 in the case of Lifeboat. I'd love if MoC could track down Renee Falconetti's previous work for inclusion in their Passion of Joan of Arc Blu-Ray. I can't find any conclusive evidence if they survive or not but a poster at NitrateVille reported that they apparently reside at the Cinematheque Francaise.

The wartime Hitchcock shorts are still available. (Although the forthcoming MoC release is of course a much better deal all round for those who haven't already bought them...)matrixschmatrix wrote:Were Comizi d'amore or Sopralluoghi in Palestina, or the wartime Hitch shorts on Lifeboat available?

We've been getting a lot of films from the US and Japan lately. It would be sweet if MoC released stuff from, let's say Eastern Europe or Scandinavia.
Cheers!

This most recent batch of announcements has finally pushed me over into getting a region-free blu ray player. Certainly great stuff has been accumulating, but this group pushed me over the edge.

Touch of Evil did this to me. I own it, and about 10 MoC releases in full. I still won't have enough saved up for the Oppo I want until March...but it's great to stock up. We've all been there. The release of Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter? did it to me. I couldn't resist.

If any one could drive a man to Region Free Blu-ray, it's Tashlin (and it cuts both ways now that we're getting the Geisha Boy from Olive)The Elegant Dandy Fop wrote:We've all been there. The release of Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter? did it to me. I couldn't resist.

Given the posts above, I just gotta add that once I concluded I had to take the plunge, my first orders were Touch of Evil and Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter? But the list goes on longer than that, of course.

Noticed that quite a few of Masters Of Cinema releases are not credited to 'Eureka Entertainment' as the UK distributor on IMDB, just missing an entry. I'm submitting updates on those titles just to say.

Any chance for João Canijo's Sangue do Meu Sangue aka Blood of My Blood (2011)?
Anyone remotely interested in Pedro Costa Fontainhas Trilogy is probably going to enjoy this great film.
Anyone familiar with rights issues, or that would like to chime in?

Re: MoC Forthcoming, Wishlist and Random Speculation
Despite having a great interest in Situationism since my teenage years I'd kind of forgotten that Guy Debord made films and have only just watched my first in Sur le passage de quelques personnes à travers une assez courte unité de temps. It maybe seems more like Eclipse territory but it'd be amazing for someone to put all of his stuff together. It looks like there was a French box set a few years back but without English subs which are obviously very necessary with such heavily involved didactic content. I'm sure there must be some decent documentaries and other materials out there on the SI too.
A pipe dream, no doubt; just chucking it out there and this seemed as good a place as any.

Sorry, but I can't quite grasp what's being asked.souvenir wrote:Hellman's The Road to Nowhere from MoC? Was this already known?
1. Is it a suggestion to add Road to Nowhere to MOC?
2. Is he asking if it's coming to MOC?
3. Or is he asking if were knew that it's already been confirmed?
Hopefully it's number 3.

The Road to Nowhere is being released by MoC (according to the film's screenwriter). I was asking if this was already a known fact here since it was news to me.

Someone started a poll at Blu-Ray.com to see what the most wanted MoC upgrade is. The results look quite predictable.

With the exception of Tabu, is it fair to assume that none of the Langs or Murnaus would be upgraded to blu ray without the FWMS foundation producing an extensive restoration/upgrade?

DIE NIBELUNGEN will be out before Xmas, and there is other activity taking place which is very exciting.
