Haha, pity poor Timothy Dalton and his tiny, tiny gun.

Re: Blu-ray, in General
I like how Lazenby and Dalton are both sorta hidden to the side there in the darker area of the box art.
At any rate, it's about friggin' time.

Re: Blu-ray, in General
Amazing even without "Never Say Never Again"?
I wonder if this Bond set is just a repackaging of the already-released Blu-ray discs, or if they are re-pressing them with new extras as well. If so, the US set will be region-A locked.
I think people would actually like to see the uncut "Goldeneye" (not released anywhere) and the uncut "Casino Royale" (non-US, non-UK), but we'll have to wait and see.

It includes one adaptation of the Thunderball script starring Sean Connery - why does it need two?manicsounds wrote:Amazing even without "Never Say Never Again"?

Doesn't MGM own the video rights to it now?

Never Say Never Again was not a EON related bond film. It was made after a legal battle over the writing of Thunderball. Fleming originally didn't give credit to Kevin McClory who later won the rights to the story and made his own version.

I was assuming that everyone was already well aware of this.ZizouJuve wrote:Never Say Never Again was not a EON related bond film. It was made after a legal battle over the writing of Thunderball. Re: Blu-ray, in General
I ended up passing on the Lionsgate "The English Patient" and going for the Japanese Warner Bros. disc, which has all the Lionsgate extras (some were not on the UK or European discs)
Can't comment on the color scheme yet, but the disc is region free, quite cheap at 1500 yen, comes with Japanese menus only.
"Cold Mountain" was released in Japan the same day, but this one only carries deleted scenes as supplements, and none of the other extras.

Cronenberg's underrated eXistenZ is coming out on Blu May 01! Hooray! But from Echo Bridge... along with Malevolent and B Monkey... all on one Blu-ray... "Hooray"

Re: Blu-ray, in General
I guess that means that porting over eXistenZ's extras are out of the question, even with the extra space of Blu! (Also as a big fan of B Monkey - Michael Radford's best film, just edging out Ninteen Eighty-Four in my affections, though it is a close thing - it is a shame that this film is not being treated better too. Have never heard of Malevolent!)

I thought Malevolent was the slasher movie, but that's "Malevolence". Apparently, Malevolent is a Lou Diamond Phillips action "vehicle" directed by the guy who kept cracking wise in Deathstalker II. The other two are enticing, but considering they are probably DVD level transfers, all of this discussion is probably pointless.

Another one of my personal favorites is hitting Blu, Martin Ritt's the Long, Hot Summer, courtesy of Italian label Medusa

Re: Blu-ray, in General
One of my all-time favorite horror films, The Ring, arrives at Best Buy only on March 20th. Best Buy exclusives have become a bit of an obsession for some home media collectors, so I would order from their website now to lock down a copy for in-store pickup (beware: the lenticular slipcover will be covered in awfully difficult-to-remove stickers if you order for shipping, if such things are important to you.
Dread Central has scans of the cover art - pretty snazzy!

Good to see it's making it's anamorphic debut.
