Re: Sara Driver retrospective in NYC, March 2012
Sleepwalk is one of the great films of the 1980s. And it's written by Kathleen Brennan (aka. Mrs. Tom Waits), proving that her husband alone isn't responsible for all the esoteric weirdness on their albums.
If you can see it, do.
If you can see it, do.

FWIW, she's going to be at a couple of screenings, and for the features, they're screening 35mm prints too.

You buried the real lead for those us outside New York.
This is the first link I've been able to find. The Anthology series, Sleepwalking: The Films of Sara Driver, coincides with the release of a DVD boxed set of her work (from Films We Like and New Video)

Great retrospective - Driver, Fletcher and others involved with the films also made appearances, and they were very nice. I think the sensibility of her work sits somewhere between David Lynch and Aki Kaurismäki, just wonderful. Hope the rest of you outside of NY can catch the DVD set when it's released - it retails for $25 at Amazon and it's worth it for You Are Not I alone.
FWIW, Driver mentioned the following bit of news, which was picked up by other news sources:
"A curious little project has come to our attention, and it’s quite exciting. A number of international directors are coming together to helm segments of an animated folk tale anthology called Tales from the Hanging Head. Filmmaker Sara Driver spilled the details on the project, revealing that she’ll be directing a story alongside Alfonso Cuaron, Michel Gondry, Marjane Satrapi, and Emir Kusturica. It’s a series of folk tales for children, linked together by the common thread of metamorphosis. Hit the jump for more. Driver spoke with the Huffington Post and the Columbia Spectator (via The Playlist) about the anthology, giving up a few interesting details: They’re from different countries, and the stories are from different countries, and Marjane is going to tie it all together with her incredible animation… The directors have to do every effect in camera or by light and shadow..."
