I actually thought it was it the worst episode this season. Which is too bad, because as you point out, it had all the ingredients needed.

Yeah, I was not a fan of this episode. Mostly because Frank Reynolds works best for me as a non-sequiter, not as a focus.

Random thought of the day: have any fans of this show seen Walter Hill's Hard Times, and if so, could you comment on my belief that Charlie's Uncle Jack is a reference to Strother Martin's cut man?



I mean, the similarities in wardrobe/look are uncanny, and if you've seen Hard Times, Martin's character examines Charles Bronson's hands with a fascination that very eerily anticipates Uncle Jack's fetish

Did tonight's episode do what I think it did? I haven't seen all of the episodes so I only picked up on a few gags, but wasn't this a compilation of previous episodes as performed by different characters?

I must confess, the longer I stay in a profession that sucks all the idealism and positivity out of me, the funnier and more cathartic this show becomes for me. I rescind my earlier negativity now that I'm a cynical shell of the human being I once was \:D/

The wife and I stopped watching a few seasons ago (during the season with the episode where Dee takes a baby to get a tan... I think) because we thought it got a little repetitive - was there actually a drop in quality or was it our imagination and we should catch up?

I haven't noticed any big drop though last season was better than the previous two. I'm just annoyed I can't watch new episodes day and delivery now.

I think their promotional material is still pretty great, but the show itself has felt stale to me for a few seasons now. I probably wasn't going to watch it anymore unless word of mouth indicates that it's improved dramatically.

I had a similar feeling but caught up with some newer episodes and found them hilarious. I think this is a show you sometimes need a break from because the back-stabbing and selfishness can get repetitive. Dennis though I can't get enough of.

Obviously the shows best years are behind it, and it (ideally) is winding down. However, they still manage two or three classic episodes a season. That's not a bad ratio. And even in the worst episodes, there's much to enjoy in just how well each cast member has grown into their characters. Yeah, Charlie Day's on the fast track to stardom, but it's Glenn Howerton and Kaitlin Olson who have been the real MVPs the last season or two. And even throwaway episodes can provide memorable moments (like P. Diddy's slap-bass rendition of "Hanging Tough")

I'm now 100% caught up with the series and can safely proclaim the current season as one of its best, which is especially surprising given that the first 2/3 or so of the eighth season was far and away the worst the show has ever been and had I been watching live I probably would have bailed midway through. Luckily it righted itself in the last couple episodes of the last season and the creative crew seems to have kept it going into this season

Renewed for two more seasons on top of this year's forthcoming tenth season-- will tie the record for second longest running sitcom of all time (season-wise, not overall episodes) with My Three Sons

In other news, Fox isn't releasing the fantastic previous season on Blu-ray, but at least it'll be on pressed DVDs unlike some other unlucky FX shows-- maybe initial Blu-ray sales would have been better if the seasons weren't first priced absurdly high and then price-slashed to mere dollars after a year or so

I recently caught up with the last season and agree that it was something of a high mark. Ironically, it's only the worst seasons that have gotten Blu-ray releases!
