I like that the tagline reassures us that the Magic Museum does indeed have magic.

You ain't kidding. I often bring her up as an example of a funny AND gorgeous woman and usually get funny looks. But she was a knockout.Feego wrote:I'll admit that the current artwork is pretty lousy colorized photoshop, but wow! I think these new ones are godawful. We easily forget how beautiful Lucille Ball was, but this cover art sure does its best to make sure we keep forgetting.

Some of the CBS Home Video/Paramount/Amazon cover for made-on-demand releases are the worst.

I appreciate that they've adjusted the placement of the text on the cover to allow for a three-hole punch

Isn't that the cover of the next Robert Pollard album?

It is even worse when you see some of the older covers for the film which show what must be the untampered image:Ashirg wrote:Some of the CBS Home Video/Paramount/Amazon cover for made-on-demand releases are the worst.

So was removing everything but the top of the helmets of the guys carrying her not meant to be a funny image, just lazy cropping? Looking at it more closely it looks as if they have repositioned the helmets as well for some reason but have still kept the guy on the left tilting slightly! And what about the exchange of the locker room setting for a weird, non-perspective grassy landscape?
(I will admit that I did some research into the earlier cover because I had a moment of thinking "Is that...Helen Hunt?!?" which sent me running for imdb. The film apparently also stars Daphne Zuniga, years before her mid-80s heyday in Rob Reiner's The Sure Thing and only a year after her debut role in the 'video nasty' Pranks!)

How is the Nibelungen cover so bad? Looks pretty cool, actually.

The whole movie should be catnip to the LOTR crowd. That isn't false advertising at all.

Re: Worst DVD Covers...ever! (Part 3-D)
Like a lot of the old Kino DVD and VHS covers, this one looks so blatantly artificial and tacky that it cheapens the work. It looks like they're ashamed of the age of the film and are trying to conceal it rather than design something appropriate to the period that highlights it as an asset. And, to me at least, it screams out "dated set designs and special effects!" in a way the film certainly doesn't deserve. Partly because of the color and photoshopping in general (I find that old-fashioned typefaces generally look poor with a drop shadow, for one thing) but also because something about the way the dragon looks in the color image reminds me of Ollie from Kukla, Fran and Ollie.
Their original DVD cover was far better:

I don't know why they don't keep the same covers as the posters and original VHS artwork these days. Companies like Shout, Criterion and even Twilight Time and Olive seem to be at least making attempts to stick with what works.

If anything I think the new cover is better. That older cover is crowded and frankly kind of cheesy-looking. The new cover is kind of artificial, I'll grant you that, but it's balanced better and more attractive to the eye.Gregory wrote:Like a lot of the old Kino DVD and VHS covers, this one looks so blatantly artificial and tacky that it cheapens the work.
