I sent Cliff a PM on the bluray.com forums about Dawn of the Dead. Shout doesn't have the rights to the film. He said that as far as he knew the film was still at Anchor Bay. While possible, it still seems VERY odd to me that it's no longer available for streaming, the dvd and blu are sold out on Amazon (with orders filled by third party retailers) and all the current releases of the film being changed to "discontinued" on the MMM database.

I would be up for Criterion releasing Women in Revolt and Flesh/Trash/Heat. They could also bring Flesh for Frankenstein and Blood for Dracula back in print.
While we are talking about Shout Factory, Cliff had posted on the insider thread of the bluray.com forums back in September that they had tried to score the rights to Blood/Flesh but were not successful. I wonder who made the winning bid for the Morrissey films?

More importantly, it would mean recognition for Dan "Pee Wee" Monahan, who as I see in his imdb entry sadly gave up acting to run a call center a decade ago.

That Ulmer set is great and has a Kalat commentary on one of the movies, it's 100% worth $8 or whatever it costs right now.

The "Criterion" edition of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button went out of print. Obviously this is due to the switch Paramount is making to Warner Brothers for distribution. I wonder if Warner is going to keep the Criterion branded packaging on their release. (probably)

And it's in stock and practically free ($2 DVD/$6 Blu) on Amazon right now if you really want it. It's worth that for the supplements alone.

I wonder what's going on with Raging Bull? MGM just discontinued both of their blu ray releases. (according to MMM)

They released a single disc blu in 2009 and a 30th anniversary edition in 2011. Amazon is already out of stock of both releases and they are only available from third party sellers. Amazon says they have more stock on order but who knows if they will actually get any. All of the special edition dvds also seem to be out of print on Amazon too with the exception of the barebones one disc from 2005. Hopefully it's a temporary moratorium. Great film.

A property like Raging Bull isn't going to stay OOP on Blu long, especially with a studio like Fox in charge. Maybe they're going to rerelease it with a digital copy or the like. On a similar note, Amazon's isn't carrying the The Hustler Blu right now, though MMM does still list it as in print.

Kino's The Krzysztof Kieslowski Collection (A Short Film About Love/Blind Chance/Camera Buff/No End/The Scar/A Short Film About Killing) is oop. Individual titles seem to be out of print too.

Noticed that both Gummo and Kids are out of print. The dvds for both films are fairly expensive on the secondary market. The films are not available for streaming and are no longer listed on either the Lionsgate or New Line/Warner Brothers website. I assume both studios lost the rights. Both films were produced by an outfit called "Independent Pictures". I wonder which studio/label picked these up (if anyone)?

I'd love to see Gummo and Kids join the collection. I've been rooting for Gummo for quite sometime now, it's one of my favorite films. But, I am still pretty sure that it is a WB title, since it was produced by New Line. (Independent Pictures was the independent subsidiary of New Line.) And Kids should still be owned by Lionsgate. Both companies probably just let the DVDs go OOP.

The Kids DVD is awful, one of the worst legit releases ever. I rewatched it recently and was shocked at how much compression blockiness it exhibited. Even though it's still pretty salacious, you'd think a nice special edition would sell well since it still has a kind of name recognition most indie flicks from the era don't

I personally would love to see both films get the Criterion treatment, though I don't know if they'd be able to get the rights, nor that they would even want to release them in the first place.

I'm pretty sure that isn't true. From a quick google search, Independent Pictures is a company founded and owned by producer Cary Woods. The company's first production was Larry Clark's Kids which was distributed by Lionsgate. After the success of that film they inked a first look deal with Fine Line Features, the arthouse/independent label of New Line. They also had films that were distributed by other companies including Miramax.

Warner has been letting the rights to the licensed product from New Line lapse. Hoop Dreams, An Angel at My Table, Naked are all former Fineline titles that are now controlled by Janus.

I think both studios lost the rights to these films. It's not just that the dvds are out of print. The fact that the films aren't listed in the library section of either company's website is a very good indicator that the rights expired. They are probably with Cary Woods if he has not licensed the titles to another company.

Well, I certainly hope you're right. But, I do remember asking on the Warner Archive Collection's facebook page some months ago if they had any plans for a Blu-Ray of Gummo, to which they said they currently weren't planning on doing anything with the film at the moment. So, to me, that always meant that they did still indeed have the rights. I'll comment on there again, this time asking if they even still have the rights.

But, man, would I love to see a Criterion edition of Gummo. That would make my day. They could even include all the extra footage that Korine shot for the film, get an interview with Korine, etc. It could really be a great, special edition.

Well if they ever do Kids, I hope they throw the Adam and Joe version of the film on there too!

On the Warner Archive Collection's facebook page, I asked if they still had the rights to Gummo, or if they had expired. They responded quickly:
Warner Archive Collection wrote:Most recent information indicates that we have rights in perpetuity.
So, they do still have the rights, and I will also assume in that case that Lionsgate still has the rights to Kids. In that case, Criterion would have to deal with licensing both of those films out, from unfortunately notoriously difficult studios to license from.

What edition of Gattaca? The DVD or the Blu-Ray or both? Is my Superbit DVD worth money now?
