I thought through Big they would have mean a particularly unexpected title, hence my reaction but otherwise, yes, Badlands is certainly long awaited.

Badlands, A Man Escaped and the Chaplin all count as major releases by some rubric or other, and Lang's always a big name.tenia wrote:If it's indeed March batch, I'm still missing the "Big" release.

Perhaps the "big" announcement is of the death of the Eclipse line?

Badlands is a good concept but I'm pretty cool on the art itself (too polished?). Maybe in person. Love the Chaplin and Lang, tho.

It reminds me of the goofy faux-pulp cover art occasionally glimpsed in the show Bored to Death.tarpilot wrote:Badlands is a good concept but I'm pretty cool on the art itself (too polished?). Maybe in person. Love the Chaplin and Lang, tho.

Verdoux is by the guy who did the Zazie cover, right? Paging Domino

Cover-wise, I like the first two; Badlands is an obvious idea let down by the execution, which doesn't look so much like 'trashy pulp cover art' as 'high school poster competition second runner up'; M. Verdoux just looks irredeemably awful - thus in line with most of their previous Chaplin covers!

If legit, I think the Bresson is wonderful. The Bresson and Malick make March the best announcement of the next year for me yet, and I'll get Ministry of Fear in the next Amazon 50% off sale.
edit: they just went online, Colonel Blimp also added. Another day one purchase!

Badlands cover's inspiration (I assume) is the paint-by-the-numbers roadside billboards, Holly's father played by Warren Oates paints in the movie.

Whether or not these are the March titles, I cannot believe they are genuine CC covers - so amateurish it seems, typography impinging on image etc...

Yes! Colonel Blimp! It certainly wasn't hard to beat the UK cover though.

The Chaplain covers never cease to amaze me. Hideous.

Re: 651 Badlands
Cover art [for Badlands] is interesting. Not sure how I feel about it, but it's certainly raised a few eyebrows from what I can tell.

I actually like the Badlands cover and Monsieur Verdoux as well, I just don't think those covers suit the films accordingly.
A Man Escaped and Ministry of Fear look very good.
The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp is simply stunning.
The Blob is as it was before, which was a fine cover to begin with.

All the covers look pretty good to me. Even Badlands, which I took to be deliberate art naif in the vein of Sissy Spacek's narration. The swank typography complements it well.
A Man Escaped and Colonel Blimp are the real standouts, though.

The original Blimp cover was great, bah. All but the Chaplin this month are pretty good though. LOL @ the Badlands bellyachers

In France, we have this, which I find pretty good :Saturnome wrote:Yes! Colonel Blimp! It certainly wasn't hard to beat the UK cover though.
