Good lord, that's amazing. The "A Film By" is perhaps a bit too "Criterion '05" for my taste in terms of font and placement, but I absolutley cannot argue with that one. Bravo.

Maybe you should buy one of those dogs on the cover to guide you around...! The wording "reminds me" does not equal "artistically the same" - it was only for laughs - nothing else!
I really like the cover, it has the Lissitzky-type feel that imediately draws me in (even the thumbnail did that for me). I like the diversity of Kurosawa covers, giving some a nice ancient look (throne of Blood), others very contemporary (Stray Dog/Ikiru) or artistic such as this one (referring to the theme in the film) or the pairing up of Ran & Kagemusha in a more painterly fashion. I wasn't planning on buying this one, but the cover seems to have changed my mind
Criterion doesn't cease to amaze me with their choice of covers. I like it. It's the type of cover that assumes everyone knows what "film by Akira Kurosawa" means
I was surprised by the modernist look of this one, but I think it's actually quite inspired. Marking a single window with a red X in a skyscaper where every window is the same expresses the film wonderfully.

I haven't read anything about this film, short of the synopsis on the criterion website. not sure If I'll be buying it. the cover is ok. a little drab.
I love and hate this cover. Maybe hate is too strong. This is my favorite of Kurosawa's work. I like the design but I think the Red letters separate it from the film. The black and white-ness of the film does not evoke any sort of red that should be represented in the cover. The climax is well represented by that building but as a cover that represents the title of the film, and the film as a whole, I would have preferred the wedding cake--as someone suggested--or a shot of Spoiler
the old man at the end; getting away with everything.
