Re: Italian DVDs With Italian Subs
That is highly likely, since the Cristaldi DVD already had subs.

Re: Italian DVDs With Italian Subs
Cristaldi are the most exciting label out there this year. On DVD they're releasing lots of new stuff for the very first time. I'm far more interested to see this than have the same Blu-rays released by all the bigger labels repeatedly.

Re: Classic Italian Cinema (non R1, English-friendly)
I've meant to do a blog on English-friendly DVDs from Germany and Italy for ages to highlight all the good stuff. I'm glad to see you're doing one. RHV have put out quite a few English-friendly Bellocchios.

Most Italian labels don't subtitle their DVDs because they wouldn't recover their cost. As far as possible, RHV tries to include English or French subtitles, but for many of their most obscure titles this would be simply too expensive...RHV have put out quite a few English-friendly Bellocchios.

Re: Classic Italian Cinema (non R1, English-friendly)
It's worth highlighting that pretty much all of their releases have Italian subtitles too - and the majority of the classic and arthouse titles will have fansubs online.
Some of the English audios must just be "foreign market" dubs though, i.e. La città si difende. It's not a surprise that most of them are Westerns or genre films.

Ordered IL CRISTO PROIBITO (1951), Curzio Malaparte's only film which he both wrote, directed and scored... He, also, who built in 1937- his modernist Villa Malaparte on the eastern side of Capri overlooking the sea, which featured so centrally in Godard's LE MEPRIS...

Re: Italian DVDs With Italian Subs
Unfortunately, while the picture & sound are mightily beautiful in HD, Cristaldi did not port across the Eng subs onto the BR of LE NOTTI BIANCHE... But I shouldn't be surprised if this wonderful new transfer shows up on Criterion in the not too distant future, such is its quality...Saimo wrote:That is highly likely, since the Cristaldi DVD already had subs.

Re: Italian DVDs With Italian Subs
How strange they didn't port the available subs... Perhaps they have already licensed the HD master for a North American release?!

Re: Classic Italian Cinema (non R1, English-friendly)
La calda vita (The Warm Life, 1964) was clearly influenced by L’avventura, but it also anticipates some Antonioni’s achievements with Red Desert.

That's one RHV disc I need to get my hands on. Always loved their DVD cover for it.

The only English option is a dub, though, right? What a waste.TMDaines wrote:That's one RHV disc I need to get my hands on. Always loved their DVD cover for it.
