With three features in the last decade, let's hope the market isn't saturated!

Hi there, fellow Portlanders of Criterionforum.org.

I was the cinematographer on a film last November called Mandarose, which is premiering at the Headwaters Theatre on July 19th and screening again on the 27th, because the first screening is totally booked already by friends & family of the cast and crew. Both screenings are benefits for the Port City Development Center, with a suggested donation of $8-$15. Here's the trailer. Come check it out on the 27th if you're interested. As always there are many (many!) things I wish I would have done differently & better, but I'm really proud to have worked on this one.

I'm also going to slip my most recent cinematography reel into the end of this post, just because.

Hey guys, haven't stopped in here as often as I'd like recently. Mainly because I've been doing pre-pro work on my short film "I Let a Song Go Out of My Heart", a short drama.

I am ridiculously pleased that I can now say in public that The Girls on Liberty Street, for which I was the cinematographer last year, will premiere at the Chicago International Film Festival in October, in the New Directors section. This is the biggest thing to happen to anything I've ever worked on, so I'm pretty much going to die of excitement/anxiety pretty soon!

The full schedule hasn't been announced yet, but we're featured in the sneak preview they just posted today.

Hey folks. Two friends and I recently finished a half-hour short called HOW TO PASS THE TIME which we filmed in Ann Arbor, MI. After doing the bigger-budgeted, heavily-crewed film school thing and finding it a bit unfulfilling, this was made in a conscious effort to strip things down onset. One of our friends had written a great script so me and my cinematographer buddy bought two tickets to Ann Arbor and the three of us spent a week realizing it, everybody chipping in in just about every aspect of the production, from shooting to acting to recording sound and creating the production design, etc.

Here's a vague synopsis: HOW TO PASS THE TIME is a surreal comedy about a young guy taking care of a strange house. He has portent dreams as the house reveals its secrets one at a time. It all seems to be leading him somewhere...

At the time of this post, the short's in the running on the Viewster Online Film Festival to potentially win a substantial cash prize, one which would go a long way towards securing the budget for a planned feature-length extension. I haven't made a film in years, but I shot and edited this last night. It's a short film, or a sketch, or an experiment, or whatever. I guess this is what happens when I watch too much Too Many Cooks and Kenneth Anger. I also have a lot of strong feelings about the state of standup comedy.

It runs 10 minutes. High concept/low art. Not for faint of heart. HD-viewing preferred.

Some may have noticed I've been absent for the past months on the forum. I've been working on my first major short film, and we are now going out to festivals. We should start playing in late spring and then on for a while as we work on raising the feature budget.

If anyone is interested here's the trailer and while I can't link the film here I'd be glad to share it with people from the forum who would be curious to see what the fuck kind of film I might have made. I made this film, Sonnet 82, which was officially released yesterday.

It is part of The Sonnet Project, an endeavor to produce short films for all of Shakespeare's 154 sonnets, each one featuring a different director, actor, and New York City location. They are up to almost 100 now with a new film being released each week. It's a really great idea that, quite frankly, I'm shocked they've kept up with and will actually be completed. These types of series often fizzle out, so it's a credit to the drive of everyone involved that it's still chugging along. I know Joanna Gleason and Alan Cox just shot parts for it, so the profile is growing.

Also, these films are viewable on The Globe Theater's media player, something I would never have expected to say in relation to my work!

EDIT: Just noticed I shared "Cleaners" here years ago. Forgot all about that. :-#

I've made many little things here and there since 2008, but many have since been removed from their streaming sites and some even lost forever. A lot of my more recent stuff still remains, though.

I have to forewarn, I'm super amateur when it comes to my approach, and I edit using Windows Movie Maker. There is a pro/con element to this. When I edit a film, and process it in 1080p, it's beautiful to look at and listen to and shows what I did with it. When I process it to 480p for Youtube and Vimeo, however, it degrades the quality and pixelates the images, lowers the sounds, and even (sometimes) flashes "glitches" between edited shots. If only I could find a way to, free of cost, share the HD files online, that'd be swell. But until then, I'll just share the crappier quality versions - which still give an idea to what I do and such.

Hey everyone! It's great to be back on here- finally finished my new Canadian indie feature "A Legacy of Whining"! Some of you may remember my last feature "Brewster McGee"- well, here's my latest! It's a comedy about two former high school friends who reunite after 30 years for a comically disastrous evening- think "After Hours" meets "The Hangover"....
We are premiering the film here in Vancouver theatrically in March '16 but if any of you know any cool indie theatres or film festivals that would show our film that would be great- appreciate the kind souls on here as always! We are planning on taking this film all over North America- would love to see all of you along the journey as your passion for film is second to none.
