Re: The OOP Heads-Up Thread
The Blob remake is getting released by Twilight Time next year. With the DVD now OOP, I expect the Blu to sell out faster than TT's Christine.
The Hostel films are already available as a double feature Blu-ray from Mill Creek.

Re: The OOP Heads-Up Thread
It's worth remembering that like Warners, Sony has put some of their OOP titles back "in print" via burn on demand DVD-Rs, so that's also a real threat here

Are you sure about that? The AE blu-ray release of Cache seems readily available to me.domino harvey wrote:Cache is out via region-free Blu-ray from Artificial Eye

When domino said "Cache is out," he was actually referring to it as being in print and out in the market.rrenault wrote:Are you sure about that? The AE blu-ray release of Cache seems readily available to me.domino harvey wrote:Cache is out via region-free Blu-ray from Artificial Eye

About those Sony titles that went OOP a few weeks ago: Mill Creek is handling an additional 665 titles and 52 television series from Sony on DVD and Blu.

Is Abbott and Costello Meets Frankenstein OOP? It's disappearing from online retailers.

According to MMM, the new DVD and Blu-ray versions of it are, but the "Comedy Classics" DVD edition isn't

Re: The OOP Heads-Up Thread
I wonder if this might be part of the supposedly-massive cache of Sony titles Criterion has acquired. I was always surprised they didn't work on more of Green's films, with this and Undertow (MGM) being the most likely candidates (for quality/reputation and availability). Green recently said they are revisiting George Washington for blu-ray, so now might be the time.domino harvey wrote:All the Real Girls

Image's DVDs of Antonioni's Le amiche and Fellini's Il bidone. Maybe Criterion picked them up?

It's open matte 4:3. Just zoom in on the image and you'll essentially have it in the correct ratio.

If you're looking for signs that Criterion is in fact releasing the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, every single MGM release that contained the film just went OOP

Criterion releasing a Leone film is the stuff dreams are made of.

Re: The OOP Heads-Up Thread
It may very well be released via Criterion in the U.S., but Fox Germany confirmed that the film is being re-released with a new transfer next year. A reissue is coming from somebody, which is indeed why the existing versions are going out of print.domino harvey wrote:If you're looking for signs that Criterion is in fact releasing the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, every single MGM release that contained the film just went OOP

Return Of The Living Dead UK Steelbook (UK version has original audio/music, US has re-recorded), though I imagine a non-limited regular release might come now that this is oop.

Five years into Blu-ray now, Criterion hasn't even upgraded any of their previous Sturges titles, so it seems like he may not be a priority for them. Just speculation of course.

Re: The OOP Heads-Up Thread
The only films in the Sturges set that are truly OOP are The Great McGinty and The Great Moment. All the others, for now, are still available individually, two by Criterion. I've never watched The Great Moment, but I can vouch for The Great McGinty, Sturges' directorial debut, as being a very charming film and essential in his oeuvre.

The Great Moment is surprisingly good. Extremely witty use of the biographical form.

Re: The OOP Heads-Up Thread
All of Sturges' films range from very good to essential in their own way, so yeah, the Great Moment, even on the low end of his oeuvre, is worthwhile. I often think of Joel McCrea's line "Pain has no memory" whenever I'm suffering through some medical malady!
