The first quote means pre-order direct from Eureka if you want an early number because all of the lowest numbers will be allocated to them. The second quote means that total pre-orders from all locations are already approaching 2000, so don't delay your purchase if you really want this. (Note that Amazon's preorder price is a little lower than Eureka's.)

The MoC tweet was in direct response of them retweeting the Eureka tweet (hence "That's right:"), so it may indeed just be Craig assuming the first indicated a full sell out, when in fact, it only applies to Eureka's store, not Amazon et al. I assume Eureka are going to be in a better position to know one way or the other.

But as I said, no way I'd be risking it.

Yeah, I'd been waiting in case Eureka offered some kind of buy 50 pounds worth get something free deal, but I went ahead and bit- I'd be really upset with myself if I didn't wind up picking this up.

Masters of Cinema wrote:That's right: our LATE MIZOGUCHI Blu-ray boxsets which are numbered to 2000, are already approaching full sell-out even in pre-orders.
So I guess the sale potential was either right on, or just below reality, right ?

In the same boat. I was hoping for a "pre-order all of our new releases and get one free" but had to pick this up, didn't want to miss out.

I preordered this a few weeks ago from Amazon. Should I switch to Eureka direct to ensure I get it?

If Eureka is nearing the end of their stock, that means the stock they've allocated for direct sales. There is surely plenty of retail copies that will remain available upon release date

I'm now confused : are the full 2000 copies "approaching full sell-out" or only the ones allocated to Eureka store ?

The tweets seem to categorically confirm "full sell-out", but I'm sure that domino is correct. Certain numbers of sets will have been pre-allocated to various online retailers (primarily Amazon), and I can't imagine Eureka would want to pull those back and leave them in the lurch in favour of their own online sales. That would burn some serious bridges.

What this might mean is that Amazon and the rest won't be able to reorder the sets once they've burned through their initial allocation.

EDIT: Just checked, and Amazon.uk don't have that helpful "x copies left" line for pre-orders, so I don't know how they're actually keeping track of their allocation. I know that there are sometimes delays on receiving new releases while they restock, so they might hit a wall on this release. It's happened to me before with Amazon, where they couldn't honour a pre-order because the item sold out fast and restocking wasn't possible. If you really want this, now is the time to act.

I simply asked MoC on Twitter and answered quite clearly : it's the whole 2000 that are going full sell out. So it means both the X copies Eureka put aside for their own store and Amazon 2000-X copies are going sell out.

I'm quite surprised, since I understood this was supposed to be hard to sell, hence the boxset, hence the try to do a limited edition to get more appeal. MoC seems to me to have underestimated the sales potential here.

In sheer terror at the contents of this thread, I went and ordered with Eureka as well. It's still crazy to me that the demand for these sets wouldn't be considerable. Most of the films in this set are nothing short of masterpieces. Even the films that might seem minor to some people, like Woman of Rumor and Street of Shame, loom large in my legend.

I caved in and ordered from Kevin as well - together with 8 other items in my MoC want list.

Service as usual very professional, efficient and courteous.

Any hope that the "buying" posts will get moved out of this thread at some point to a more suitable home? ;~}
