The other mention was also wishful thinking, I believe. Which is fine, but when that kind of thing is expressed as something that's going to happen, it ends up confusing people or getting their hopes up without anything to back it up, especially with something like The Devils.Lowry_Sam wrote:Just call it the power of positive thinking. Ok, I'm officially sick of hearing rumors about "The Devils". Can I watch it on YouTube or somewhere just to know what the big deal is?

Re: Criterion and MGM

I put this in the other MGM thread, but am wondering if this means the rumors of Criterion doing GBU are true. Obviously not Rocky.

Re: Criterion and MGM
I doubt the rumors are true. Remember; 2014 is the 90th anniversary of MGM. If we've learned anything in recent years is that studios love to repackage evergreen catalog titles for major anniversaries. Certainly Criterion and MGM partnering on It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World sets some kind of precedent but if any other one off deals were to emerge; I think it would be more likely we would see the Blake Edwards/Peter Sellers Panther box get slapped with a wacky C than either Rocky or The Good The Bad and The Ugly. (It is my opinion that those odd phantom pages that popped up over a 48 hour period was just some employee having a laugh/fucking with the forum)

Anyone know what happened to the rumored Ghost World Criterion release? There were some strong rumors in 2010 and then nothing.

OK, so chalk up two more into the announced column. Hopefully Red River is next in the coming months...

I'm certain that they took it happily because they know they'll sell a ton of them. Just because it isn't very good doesn't mean that it doesn't have a large, enthusiastic audience.bainbridgezu wrote:Perhaps Criterion argeed to take It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World in order to...

Obviously this is just speculation, but what are the chances that Criterion will not only be focusing on GBU, but rather the whole Man With No Name Trilogy for that matter?flyonthewall2983 wrote:I put this in the other MGM thread, but am wondering if this means the rumors of Criterion doing GBU are true. How about The Sergio Leone Anthology (A Fistful Of Dollars / For A Few Dollars More / The Good, The Bad And The Ugly / Duck, You Sucker)? Duck, You Sucker is still due for its 1st BD release.criterion10 wrote:Obviously this is just speculation, but what are the chances that Criterion will not only be focusing on GBU, but rather the whole Man With No Name Trilogy for that matter?flyonthewall2983 wrote:I put this in the other MGM thread, but am wondering if this means the rumors of Criterion doing GBU are true. Re: Forthcoming Lists Discussion and Random Speculation Vol.
It looks like Criterion has licensed another batch of MGM titles. Director Mike Figgis confirms that Criterion is releasing a special edition of Leaving Las Vegas in 2014 on twitter.
Here's what he posted on his twitter account:
Q: I noticed in Leaving Las Vegas credits there was a 'making of' documentary team. Is this doc anywhere to view / buy?
A: There is a docu - LLV is coming up for 20th birthday next year - talking to Criterion about special edition_docu

It's worth noting that MGM did release this on blu themselves much like It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World. (Leaving Las Vegas blu is currently OOP though.)

I will do a dance if they do Leaving Las Vegas. Great film, deserving of a nice special edition.

Oh. It seems that I mistook them for the voices of Phil and Lil.
I actually had no idea that O'Brien wrote an episode of that show.

Yeah, he write the episode where the kids spend a week in the stereotypical Jewish grandparents house.

I really hope Cutter's Way ends up in Criterion's hands: the old transfer is piss-poor, and as under-seen as the film is it's really gotten an increase in appreciation in the last couple years (particularly in the UK). One can dream...

I hate to say it, but other than the great Lester film, I think the most likely ones for Criterion to have gone for are the Kramers. Maybe also Tom Jones.

Re: Forthcoming Lists Discussion and Random Speculation Vol.
I'd love to see Criterion handle the bizarro Cold Turkey and Topkapi, and Moby Dick has been on my Blu-ray wish list for a long time (I assume the Huston version is the one being discussed).
