And the Goto Kickstarter has gone live - complete with a Terry Gilliam-fronted trailer that includes clips from the new restorations.

£60 for a 5 film, 14 short box set is an unbelievably reasonable price. I'm in!

Just made a pledge, but I wish Kickstarter backers were getting an exclusive numbered edition or super-early shipping as a reward. At least I hope Arrow does not offer the set for less than £60 direct from their store when they begin accepting pre-orders, that will be a right kick in the teeth!

For potential non-Region B backers, can the coding of the discs be confirmed at this point?

I was nervous at first that they might ask me to part with some of my fine horsehair flytraps in exchange for this set, but thankfully they are only asking for paper currency. What a deal!

It will be Region B. RRP uncertain at this point but it's highly unlikely it will be less than £99.99.

Though since it seems the set will be dual the region shouldn't be too severe a problem.

Just a quick comment on this:The press email that went out is not a lot clearer than this. What is in the news announcement is what was sent. I know because I have seen the email that is on file at Blu-ray.com. (And I can copy it as well).

In fact, it is not mentioned at all that 14 shorts will be included in the upcoming box set. It is also not mentioned/confirmed that Goto... will be included in the box set.

This is the info that went out.

Thanks.

You have my money! This sounds like an incredible undertaking, and I can think of few other labels at this point in time which would be willing to go for it, so kudos for the boldness.

Profuse thanks to everyone who's pledged so far - it's only ten hours since the campaign went live, and it's already over 16% of the way there.

Which bodes well.

Great to see so much enthusiasm for this, less than 24 hours and already nearly 25% there. It'll be very interesting to see if this becomes a more commonly used method of funding the restoration of films. As well as this one, I cheerfully contributed to the BFI's 'Save the Hitchcock Nine' campaign a couple of years ago, and the success of that proved that there's a lot of support for this kind of thing. Maybe it's too soon to ponder, but I'm curious as to what they'll do should they exceed the target?

I don't want to jinx anything - but yes, the prospect has been discussed, and we have plenty of ideas, all designed to enrich the contents still further.

Ha ... I'd like to know this too. It kills me that that won't be included, though it sounds like you guys have exhausted every option.

I'll make my pledge when I get home this afternoon.

If the Kickstarter is successful, if the set sells well and receives some accolades and such, perhaps it will help negotiations with the rights holders to Dr Jekyll.

I'm in. Good luck with this, Michael et al. I don't know why this funding model isn't used more often.

The model seems to be being used more often. I think part of the problem is the rocky start some of these got to (if I remember correctly Portrait of Jason was a last minute save) and just that its new. After the success of this I'm sure it will be used more often.

Yes, I think you have to get out of the traps with a bang.

Terry Gilliam's participation was vital here - had we simply said "we're going to restore Goto, Isle of Love", I don't think we'd have notched up quite as many pledges within the first 24 hours (currently £5,587, or nearly 28% of target). I'm sure word of mouth would have got out, but almost certainly in a much more leisurely fashion.

And of course featuring clips from the completed restorations didn't exactly hurt either.

The only Walerian Borowczyk feature I've seen, and it's been a long while, is La Bête, which honestly I didn't know what to make of at the time. A couple of his short films were also included on the UK DVD and I recall enjoying them more. Of course I can't remember much about them while images from La Bête will remain forever embedded in my brain. In any case, I've pledged for the boxset because I could hardly pass up a campaign this ballsy. I've been tempted previously, but this is the project that finally convinced me to set up a Kickstarter account.

So, best of luck to all involved and thanks for this possibility!
