Such a tragedy too that we can't up or down vote comments and so bury some of the most insightful and interesting posts beneath an onslaught of kneejerk reactions by whoever happened to constitute a logged-in majority at any given moment in a thread's history.

They could be working on another De Palma title, but the one being speculated about in that nearly four year old thread that swo linked to (to show how long there has been speculation about Phantom of the Paradise) most likely was Blow Out, which was released in 2011.
Ahem... I'll just leave this here....

I know Scream is releasing Phantom. I was pointing out to Dylan how old the thread swo linked to was and that there is no evidence of Criterion doing any more De Palma films.

Question on the CC FB page from earlier....
Given what today is, would it be possible for you to give us a hint to tide us over until Monday?

Criterion's response
There's a hint on our Tumblr's first page: http://criterioncollection.tumblr.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Who is the girl with the painted mustache? The only movie mentioned explicitly that doesn't have a blu is Cries and Whispers, although I'd bank on the Liv and Ingmar picture being a hint for Persona

The Cries and Whispers poster is on their tumblr because it is screening tonight at Lincoln Center in NYC.

Yeah, I have a hard time believing they'd upgrade Cries and Whispers before releasing Persona. Maybe at the same time?

I wasn't linking to an old thread, but to the search results in the forthcoming section to show that people have been speculating about Phantom for a while.

Sorry. I mistakenly referred to it as a thread twice, but I pointed out why you linked to that in an earlier post

A cries and whispers upgrade would make sense the same month as Persona...

Which film would they attach the Liv and Ingmar documentary too?

I imagine it would break down this way:
Persona/Faro-dokument(s!)
Cries and Whispers/Liv and Ingmar

Looking at it objectively, that makes a hell of a lot more sense than Persona/Faro-Dokument/Liv and Ingmar, unless this was going to be a full-blown $50 set. Especially considering there doesn't seem to be a similarly obvious pick for a major supplement on a Cries and Whispers upgrade. They're not going to put that one out without doing it the same kind of justice they did to the Autumn Sonata upgrade, which was a similarly old and somewhat comparatively barebones edition.

You're nuts. It'll be a loaded package for Persona and a simple upgrade for Cries and Whispers (if that's getting tackled at all)

I agree with Domino. Persona is one of the Holy Grails of world cinema. CC has probably waited a long time to get their hands on this. It should be stacked beyond belief, even if the new doc is not included but in my opinion it will.

Criterion were obviously referring to The Great Beauty. It hits iTunes and video on demand the last week of February. Paolo Sorrentino also mentioned in his indiewire interview a few weeks back that he's been to the Criterion offices and recorded an extensive interview for the dvd/blu. They are obviously planning to get this out for awards season much like Blue is the Warmest Colour last month.

Either The Great Beauty or Persona would be great. If both, it would be better than great. \:D/

The Oscars are on March 2, so it would make sense for The Great Beauty to be among Monday's March announcements. If it wins Best Foreign Language Film, they'll want it on the market as soon as possible.
