Well, if I were to interpret this purely along wish-fulfillment lines that red river and sun and other bits would indicate a Howard Hawks sweep of RED RIVER, THE BIG SKY (restored, director's cut), a deservingly-packed, deluxe ONLY ANGELS HAVE WINGS, and the too long-MIA RED LINE 7000; the red spot would point to a packed, Hedren-commentaried MARNIE and the two women on the river bank would be CELINE AND JULIE (about to) GO BOATING. And everything else, save the Demy's, would point toward Naruse. Lots and lots of Naruse.

We'll have to wait and see, but they are supposedly releasing Lester's remarkable The Knack ...and How to Get It; this is according to some people who claim to have been privy to Criterion's "secret" list of initial MGM acquisitions.

Is One-Eyed Jacks with Echo Bridge? It looks like the last US home video release was from them. I hope they've lost the rights since then.

I really think Miramax probably still has the rights, and the best we can hope for his that they will license it to Criterion. As domino has pointed out though, the French Blu-ray is region free and looks fantastic.

Unless of course, Miramax's rights expire soon. It is a title that would be more likely to get a standalone release than Donkey Skin, so maybe Criterion made a deal where they can box it for now & release as a single title once their rights to it are gone? The box sales would generate at least some revenue for Miramax perhaps because they wouldn't ordinarily release something like this with such little time left in their agreement.

The theatrical rights to Miramax's library are handled by Park Circus in the U.S. They still list the U.S. domestic rights on their site. When the film played the Portage Theater in Chicago and The American Cinematheque in 2013, Miramax/Park Circus were credited. Park Circus also received thanks for Film Forum's Demy series. It's not specified for which film, but there's really only one possibility.

Thanks very much for the breakdown. This explains why I don't remember any Miramax logo from what I saw in October. Oh well to amzaon.fr it is, which means I'm not going to be able to resist ordering the Rohmer box.

The Big Chill and Tootsie do not belong in the same categegory as IAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMW. The sequel to Mad World would be if Criterion were releasing Canonball Run or some other schlocky-washed-up-comic-money-grab.

Tootsie and The Big Chill are two of the finer Hollywood produced films of the early 80s (There weren't many).

Also; I noticed that Westchester films added James Ivory's A Room with a View to the catalog section of their website. Criterion didn't have this in their Merchant-Ivory collection. (different rights holders). I suspect that Criterion probably snapped it up and we'll see at least 1 more James Ivory film added to the collection.

The lawsuit was for the films Criterion licensed and released under The Merchant-Ivory Collection. A Room with A View (Westchester Films) and Remains of the Day (Columbia Pictures) have nothing to do with the lawsuit or the company repping those films.

Well if it's on their Hulu then it's likely to be coming clue or no clue. A good alternative to Ringu, since that one seems less likely now. It too is a good chance for a new Kalat commentary; he wrote a book on J-Horror and has blogged about Cure specifically.

May be a stretch, but I wonder if the X in the cliff could be a hint to Kiyoshi Kurosawa's Cure- they've had it on Hulu forever now, and the X seems like it's in a prominent place for a mark that doesn't signify anything.
