CC should have made the Rififi booklet cover the cover art.

Moe, btw... I hope they get creative with the Tootsie art. I hope it's not the poster of Dustin in drag, even though that's the film.

Still better than their laserdisc cover for the film.

Ugh I was just about to say I always liked the LD cover. So long as it's nothing like the DVD cover I'll be happy.

I'm excited to see what Skillman and the gang come up with for it.

We're talking about the Criterion LD, right? I think the Columbia/RCA one is fine, but Criterion's comes off lazy.

It looks a bit lazy, but sometimes, it's better than over-produced or completely out of here.

I see no reason why we can't use that photo AND the erect Tootsie roll on the same cover.

It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World
La vie de boheme
The Long Day Closese

I'm sure all the people who are still DVD-only (who still want to own IAMMMMW) will be thrilled to know that every DVD had come of its holder and was sliding around in the box. The Blu-rays were fine.

And interestingly everything about the design for Boheme is similar to Le Havre.

My IAMMMMW was fine for its discs having stayed in their holders if that counts for anything, but talking about packaging this does remind me to praise Criterion for the new plastic case design for two discs (i.e. Thief and the two DVD side of the Nashville set), where one disc is designed to slot behind the other. I think they're finally onto a winner in terms of package design after lots of different experiments.

Collin, they'd been using those Scanavo cases for 2 Disc Blu sets as well, like Heaven's Gate.

Thankfully my Mad World arrived with all discs in their slots. The packaging is so thin (thinner than Nashville!) that it's almost like the discs are papoosed in there tight.

And yes Chris, the Criterion Tootsie cover I liked. I'm not saying it should be replicated now, but for that era of design it was good for me because it was clean and simple, used the film's logotype and said a little something about the film with the two Dustins. And avoided the fucking Red Dress that EVERY other release uses.

I think the guy who did the cover art drew for Mad Magazine.

He did. Jack Davis also had a lucrative career making advertising and movie posters and before that worked on other EC Comics like Tales From the Crypt et al

Ironically, Jack Davis also did the cover for Mad Compilation "It's a World World World World Mad" as well

I noticed that when they first announced the film. I just assumed they were going for another one of those things where the films released by one director are treated with a similar art style, like the Max Ophuls or Wes Anderson films in the Collection.

La Havre certainly isn't a sequel, but it is a follow-up of sorts, so the packaging makes a lot of sense.
