It would make my year if someone who gets cut off at the Oscars tells the Academy to fuck off like Trent Reznor did last night.

That pic looks like a scene from a David Lynch film. There's a dwarf and a cowboy.

I still would highly recommend that film they did, Electroma, which is kind of like a robot version of Gus Van Sant's Gerry!

Re: Awards Season 2013
The confrontation between two of the finalists to the Cesar for best supporting Actress is very funny:
The PM, Hollande's mistress, the apparently quite rich Julie Gaye (the talk of tabloids) for the Tavernier's film about Ministers and Politicians !!!; and Sarkozy's mother in law, Carla Bruni's mother, Marisa Borini, because her other daughter Valeria's film, a sort of another self portrait about their former ex wealth and Castle near Turin and trouble with men.

Surprised because you don't think Captain Phillips had the best editing of all the nominated dramas or because American Hustle beat The Wolf of Wall Street?

Re: Awards Season 2013
As a disclaimer I didn't see Captain Phillips but did see Gravity, Her and 12 Years a Slave, and was just surprised that Gravity didn't win. That would have been my guess, with Her being a close second.warren oates wrote:Surprised because you don't think Captain Phillips had the best editing of all the nominated dramas or because American Hustle beat The Wolf of Wall Street?
I haven't heard much technical praise for Captain Phillips until this award.

Re: Awards Season 2013
Captain Phillips certainly deserved the award, even in that distinguished crowd. Gravity's an impressive film, but I can easily understand how the A.C.E. would be ambivalent about awarding its highest honor to a film where whatever we usually think of as "editing" was done many times over before a single frame could in any way be said to have been cut in "post" production. Since almost every shot in the film is a VFX shot, the film's official credited editors are the director and a VFX editor/supervisor. The proper award for Gravity might as well be called something like "best shotlist, storyboarding, previs, cinematography and VFX, plus nice timing choices on where you started and stopped the shots." It's like saying Werckmeister Harmonies has great editing, which, in a way, it does. Just that most of that "editing" took place within the choreography of each long take as they were shooting. The easy part was pasting those takes together.
