Finally received my set yesterday. As excited as I am it's been somewhat tempered by the box having both end corners smashed in to the point where the cover sleeve for Rohmer L'Integral is also smashed in. On top of that there's a big scratch running diagonally that's been indented across the front (Rohmer drawing). The plastic wrapping was also already opened so I dunno if I received a return or what. I'm usually not a stickler for these things but considering what this is and how much it cost I'm annoyed. Do I have any recourse here with amazon.fr?

They'll pay for the replacement, but it will probably cost you extra to send it back. Also, their packaging is no better the second time around.

I received my set Monday from amazon UK and was shocked at how little damage was done to it, especially considering that the tracking hinted at some delivery hiccup that apparently resulted in a couple days delay (making my total wait right at two weeks). So I was well prepared for the worst, but other than one very mildly dinged corner it is in fine shape. And it wasn't packaged particularly carefully to say the least. I don't know if mine was simply a lucky case or what, but I wouldn't necessarily assume that it'd be futile trying to get an acceptable replacement.

I've watched three of the blu-rays (Sign du lion, Chloe, and Le beau marriage) and they all looked stunning. I am incredibly happy with this awesome box.

I'm pretty sure Amazon.Fr want you to return it to them directly. You might be able to refuse the shipment somehow, and chase the shipper, who does have a US point of contact, but I don't know how this will result in a replacement.

Mine arrived last week (Fri. 24) exactly two weeks from order date with standard delivery. A post confirmation e-mail indicated that it should be there by today so it made it with almost a week to spare. Like grisbi the packaging was nothing special (cardboard box supplemented with paper wadding) but was sufficient to prevent any damage other than a very minor corner box bump just over the endpaper illustration of Rohmer with camera to eye. Return address is i-parcel in Indiana but it also has USPS tracking sticker and the upper part of the label has UPS - JFK! All this covers up most of the original amazon-fr label. I'm frankly amazed that it got here in one piece as quickly as it did with all these players involved.

I haven't opened it yet (major holiday kevyip backup due mainly to MoC sales) and have been content to just worship its presence sitting atop the shelf! I really need to clear the decks before cracking this open for serious appraisal and its pristine condition doesn't indicate any immediate need for inspection.

That said I understand the curiosity aroused by the inclusion of these mysterious and vaguely motivated tea-bags! Bravo to Misters Hare and Hansen for their cautious investigation. I certainly wouldn't imbibe!

My set arrived today (shade under two weeks from .It). Box is slightly smushed on one bottom corner, but all in all pretty immaculate.

Now to solve the mystery! Both bags are "La Bergamotier", which smells like the bergamot Earl Grey I've sampled in the past. Nothing overly pungent about them, at least not comparable to what David was describing *thankfully; I'm just fine without having had to experience that*. As for taste...not too bad. Not much of a tea drinker so I can't compare, but pretty pleasing. Brewed both bags since they were open. Will happily finish my mug and never give it a 2nd thought. Three and a half stars.

EDIT: I should have said it tasted of nostalgia, regret, and young French women, but alas. Caffeine's given me a headache as well. So I'll dock it a star out of spite.

Why do you have a account credit? Might I recommend the Pialat Blu-Rays, and especially the integrale Jacques Rozier set, which is a wonderful companion to the Rohmer set. Also the afformentioned Varda set looks ace.

Thanks to all of you for the recommendations but a closer look at the link to the promotional credit reveals that it's mostly restricted to big boxsets of American TV shows! I recall the positive discussion up-thread about the Varda set and the thought of Bernard's LES MISERABLES in HD is tantalising but the choices are virtually devoid of actual French content! The most interesting options look to be the Wild Side RED RIVER (with short version in SD!) and NIGHT OF THE HUNTER (much the same as the Crit) but since my French is so non-existant those gorgeous Garnier coffee-table books would be wasted. I'm guessing these sets would be much like those in the "Boxset Porn" photos David posted a few pages back on GUN CRAZY.

Amazon? I had the same trouble. I don't know if you can win this one. They will send you a free replacement (with the same crap packing job) and refund a portion of your return shipping, but it will cost you dearly to return yours. You may want to contact the shipping broker they use and ask them...I forgot their name, but they have US offices.

Actually, miracle of miracles, they just got back to me to say that a new set was on its way and that I could print out a prepaid label to cover the shipping of the return. Now I just have to hope the second copy arrives in better shape!

I hope you're right, but I think the pre-paid label would only work in France.

If you had to ship it back manually and you kicked up a fuss, they'll always give back the money to cover the full shipping charges once you've told them that their automatic reimbursement amount wasn't enough.

I'm always surprised that they don't have a scheme yet to allow you to return your item to the Amazon store in your country, although they probably don't lose out too much as very people know their rights when it comes to being a consumer.

I've only rarely bothered with returning stuff, and with Amazon they'll often tell me not to bother returning the faulty / damaged copy once they realize I'm overseas (though it can take a bit of back and forth to make this fact sink in!). On the occasions that they have insisted on me returning the damaged item, they've always reimbursed the full shipping cost, but sometimes only after even more back and forth to explain that their prepaid label won't be accepted at overseas post offices, and that the postage costs might be exorbitant. (Sometimes it's at that final point that they end up saying, "oh, then just keep it.")

The new set arrived this morning with a little more wadding, a "Fragile" sticker, and no visible damage. Wonderful. The old set is in the mail and shipping costs will apparently be refunded when it arrives (the prepaid label did not work).

Now I have to decide where to begin watching. Do any of the supplements have subtitles?

My print is for Love in the Afternoon, probably my least favorite Rohmer film, so if anyone would like to trade, PM me. Do all the sets come with a Claire's Knee poster? An odd choice.
