I wasn't stating it as fact; I just wondered if the poster's claim that Criterion doesn't usually make upcoming release announcements on a Friday held any validity. In hindsight, I should have added a question mark.

They've announced on Friday before. They've announced on Friday the 13th and 14th before when the 15th was on Sat or Sun.

Hopefully, there'll be an announcement on this Friday (lucky 13th).

It's not just me, right? There are no pages for the March titles on the Criterion website?

I watched The Hidden Fortress DVD release disappear and only Essential Art House release is up there now.

Clearly the entire staff is too busy celebrating the anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge

If they don't announce Friday we won't hear until Tuesday because Monday is a holiday.

Though it is a US federal holiday, many (private) companies don't grant it to their employees (while on the other hand some school districts still get both Lincoln & Washinton Birthdays off).

I came across this piece on Marty in the LA Times today and thought that both it and the only other film (so far) to earn both the Palm d'Or and an Oscar for Best Picture, The Lost Weekend, would both make fine additions to the collection.

I'm not sure if you're trying to say that Monday will be full of pornography of moonshine. :-k

I recommend checking out the Golden Age of TV boxed set then, as in a way Marty's already part of the collection. As such, I'm sure they'd be happy to release the film version as well.

Criterion said on Facebook that the announcements will be made on Tuesday. Because Monday they'll be busy at the bank.

We've been disallowed on this board from typing certain common internet abbreviations so "xxx" is just a censored version of what I intended to type there.

Based on the past few times that this has occurred, it seems that, going forward, Criterion will always announce new titles on Monday if the 15th falls on the weekend (Tuesday in this case due to the holiday).

Yeah, it's been a while since they've announced on Friday with a weekend 15th.

If I remember correctly (if brain cells permit), when these dates fell like this several years back the Tues announcements were made late morning eastern time. It was the Black Narcissus announcements.

Just checked calendar and it was April of 2010. The 15th fell on Thurs. Not sure why announcements were pushed but they did push them and when they were announced it was late morning. Anyone Bueller?

So do they have any plans to announce these titles today officially? Or they are like "well, the cat is out of the bag, we might as well wait til the next month for a new announcement!"

Yeah, they're totally Tarantinoing their May announcements. Like, they might release Red River a few years from now, if they feel like it. But for now, they're on to other things.

Criterion is sulking in their room.

Or else they're in full evil genius "I'll show them!" mode and are scrabbling to assemble a completely different lineup of films nobody would ever expect or want (Not Even As Good As Wild 90: Films from Norman Mailer's Cutting Room Floor box set; The 400 Blows extra-special special edition with lenticular cover and jar of sand; Solo con tu pareja Blu-Ray, including rare five-hour cut of the feature; Tootsie).

Tootsie with a joint commentary by Drew Casper and Marian Keane.

EDIT: I feel uneasy making a joke about Keane and the notoriety of her commentaries. If this is legit, then she apparently doesn't hesitate to call people on the carpet (and is unaware that "pomo" is shorthand for postmodernist). I'll admit up front that I don't have two good questions about Tootsie.

That, OR they'll announce around 4:00 like they did last month and several months before.

They are not even tweeting that the announcements are coming. Instead, they tweet about three reason for Fantastic Mr Fox...
