Only way to be sure is to introduce it into the local water supply and see how the populace reacts.

Received my flash sale order of 11 items yesterday. I couldn't remember how shipments from Criterion had come in the past, so I deliberately avoided box sets and digipacks this time around. Everything was fine except for one of the older DVDs (Heaven Can Wait) which had the cellophane wrap so utterly and completely FUSED to the spine that the case was an immediate sacrifice. I guess I'll never feel I can stop keeping "good" spare cases around.

For me it was a mix of digipaks and keepcases. Air pillows didn't manage to keep them from floating around in the box, so in the end only kept one that was in cherry shape (Tess), as a good number of them had managed to scrape and/or dent each other, and the few borderline ones (minor issues) I figured I could do better with at B&N stores. Business as usual from Kentucky for me.

Why are Royal Tenenbaums and Life Aquatic dvds no longer sold through the Criterion website, even though the blus are?

Disney is the distributor of the Anderson releases, as well as a few other Disney acquisitions (Chasing Amy, the two Michael Bay movies).

As you can see the order wasn't packaged like a normal order

I received one of my orders today and while everything was in good condition one title was missing. It was included on the packing slip and email notification so I don't think it was backordered (Heaven's Gate.)

But Disney is not the distributor of the Anderson blus?

Yeah, Disney has little interest in distributing their catalog titles on Blu-ray aside from their A-list titles (classic animation, box office tentpoles, etc.)

Sorry, it was given to a Golden Ticket Winner.

(And is anybody else sort of disappointed that the 'Golden Ticket' only entitles the winner to a single DVD or BluRay? I was expecting something a lot more lavish and / or gimmicky!)

A Golden Opportunity

Twenty lucky customers who shop during this flash sale will find golden tickets tucked into their orders. Those winners will get goodies ranging from Criterion shirts and other swag up to the grand prize: a virtual shopping spree via webcam to the Criterion product closet in our New York City office. Good luck!

I hope some of the golden tickets will be invitations to tour Criterion headquarters sent to some of the biggest complainers and most entitled fans, who will be given a tour by an unusually flamboyant Jonathan Turell and eliminated one by one in a series of comical fates. If I get one, I'll end up making a crack about the cover art of I Married a Witch, and a diminutive intern in orange face paint and a green wig will pull a lever sending me down a chute into a boiling cauldron.

No, no, it has to be delightfully ironic. You'll end up married to Witch Hazel from the old Bugs Bunny cartoons instead.
If somebody complains about "Tiny Furniture", they shrink them down to the size of a mouse, too. For those who complain about the Michael Bay films, insert explosions here.

And if someone complains about Rivette, they just get cast Out 1.

And if they complain about the transfers for Children of Paradise and Earrings of Madame de..., their features are completely erased.

I usually don't pre-order with them as I find myself buying stuff already in-stock. I've heard of people receiving items a week early from them. Part of it depends on where you live.

Hopefully we'll see another flash sale around the end of the month. It seems to me that they've consistently had one in late September/early October.

Great news! But fortunately for my budget I'll be away for the whole sale. That's fine as my kevyip is still pretty huge from the last B&N sale (a number of sets, among much else) and other purchases.

Here are the dates of the previous Criterion sales:

Feb 25 2014
Oct 01 2013
Feb 24 2013
Sept 24 2012
Feb 14 2012
Sept 08 2011
Feb 24 2011

So, yes, there's probably one coming up soon. Preferably on or after October 1st if they love those of us who work for a living and need paydays to cushion the blows of a good Crit sale

Not sure this was mentionned elsewhere so forgive me if it's the case but Criterion has a new Burroughs poster up for sale.

Just a reminder that given the past couple of years, it's very likely there will be another half off sale at the Criterion Store in the coming weeks
