Is the current UK edition still region free? (I understand that the prior edition was (the one with the heart on the cover) - but Amazon.co.uk claims the current one (with Sailor & Lula in the car) is region B.)

It too is definitely censored.

I'm unsure if it's a different master. Universal's first DVD master (which is the only one to be completely uncensored) was older than the Lynch approved master from the Lime Green set, but Universal may have done a new one or licensed the Lime Green one for their later Collector's Edition DVD and Blu-ray (it's definitely not their original DVD master, as obviously it would be uncensored).

There's a comparison here of the Universal master available on Blu-ray, and the Lynch approved DVD master to feature on the TT disc (which, as I say, could be one and the same).

No, they locked the later 2012 release (Sailor and Lula in the car). The region free version (heart cover) from 2010 is fetching quite a bit now. The region free disc has zero extras, whilst the newer region B disc has Lynch's entire Dumbland short series, and two of his older short films, The Grandmother and Lumiere and Company. I can't fathom why it's missing all of the extras that are coming on the TT disc, as they were on the Universal Collector's Edition DVD!

Sorry, I'm getting terribly confused.

The TT is going to be the Lime Green transfer, albeit missing the delted scenes? Also, is Lynch's approved version on Lime Green is censored?

As far as I understand it:

There was no new transfer for the Lime Green set. The Lime Green set included the MGM DVD from 2004. The deleted scenes were on a separate bonus disc.

The MGM DVD from 2004 was a Lynch-approved transfer that was censored. That will be the transfer used on the TT disc.

All Blu-Ray releases worldwide have been censored. It is unknown which ones come from the 2004 MGM transfer or if any come from previous/subsequent transfers that were also censored.

The only transfer that has ever been stated to be Lynch-approved was the 2004 MGM transfer.

The Twilight Time Blu-Ray will be the only Blu-Ray release worlwide so far that includes extras directly related to Wild At Heart (all the extras from the MGM Special Edition), although it won't contain the deleted scenes from the Lime Green set.

According to Facebook, they're delaying their March releases while they wait for non-eco friendly cases that they had to import from China themselves. Personally, I'd rather just get my disc on time than insist on consuming more plastic, but ohhhhhhkay....

All four January releases came in eco-cases, rather than the ones they had always used previously. There was quite an uproar on Blu-ray.com, and TT clarified that their manufacturers used eco-cases without consulting them. The Feb releases were back to normal cases, but I guess they ran out. Obviously they now can't go back to eco-cases after promising they wouldn't be used again, hence the delay.

Here's the full statement from Nick and Brian:

NEW RELEASE UPDATE:

The tentative street date for our five March titles was March 11th, but owing to some production difficulties the 5 titles, Bring Me The Head of Alfredo Garcia, Equus, Conrack, Fever Pitch, and All The King's Men will be arriving at SAE on "staggered" dates over the course of the next 2 weeks. The primary reason for the delay is our choice to go with "standard" blu-ray cases as opposed to "eco cases" which are proving unpopular with collectors.

As most of you know, our manufacturers, Cinram, switched all of our releases in January to eco cases without consulting us, and we insisted on returning to the standard variety. There was enough stock left at the plant to cover the February releases, but now there are none left anywhere as American manufacturers no longer want to do anything other than the "eco" version. This means we are going to be importing the sturdier "Infiniti" cases which are made in China. We are bringing in enough of these to Cinram to cover all our releases through the end of this year, but obviously at greater cost and logistical difficulty to us.

We were informed by Cinram this morning that the first delivery from China has been delayed until Monday which means the discs that remain to be packaged, at least 3 of our 5 current titles cannot be completed and shipped to SAE until the middle of next week.

We are of course sorry for the inconvenience, but this is just one of the many administrative headaches that have to be dealt with on a daily basis in order to bring our favorite films to you guys -- a little bit of patience is now required, but it will all be worth it when we finally get them in.

Thanks as always for your fantastic support,

Nick and Brian.

Some lower stock info from TT on blu-ray.com:

AS GOOD AS IT GETS (about 600 left)
THOSE MAGNIFICENT MEN IN THEIR FLYING MACHINES (about 600 left)
BYE BYE BIRDIE (about 700 left)
LEAVE HER TO HEAVEN (about 800 left)
THE DRIVER (about 850 left)
HARD TIMES (about 900 left)

THUNDERBOLT AND LIGHTFOOT and BRING ME THE HEAD OF ALFREDO GARCIA are moving briskly with more than half of the stock gone on both already -- so if you have any interest in these two, time is running short.

Does this mean MGM would lease it to TT? Is it possible for TT to get the film from MGM and work with the director to produce a director's cut of the film? As per my understanding, they don't restore a film, they get whatever is available to them. So, do you think that this could be Salvador?

Ann Margret angle aside, what's the feeling on Bye Bye Birdie, worth getting?

No. I love the specific period depicted, I like most of the cast, and I like the director, but Bye Bye Birdie is smarmy garbage and a terrible movie musical

It's on youtube so I watched a little bit of it after my post and it does seem pretty bad. Never knew that the film actually starts out with Ann Margret's iconic performance.

As they grow and expand, TT has become more ambitious, so perhaps this is possible.

I thought he was talking about TT putting a bunch of work into an Oliver Stone release. When replying to something from the previous page, it's usually a good idea to quote—just a friendly suggestion.

I was talking about Salvador. When I typed my reply it was in the quick reply at the bottom while looking at the previous page, so I didn't see the Bye Bye Birdie posts when I replied. Sorry for the confusion.

Twilight Time wrote:A SPECIAL EVENT FOR TWILIGHT TIME’S THIRD BIRTHDAY ON WEDNESDAY, MARCH 19th!

It seems like only yesterday, but incredibly, Twilight Time turns 3 years old this month, and to celebrate we are doing something we’ve never done before which is to offer a special price-promotion on 36 of our Blu-ray titles (one for each month we’ve been in operation!) This promotion will last for exactly 5 days - it will begin with the April pre-orders on Wednesday, March 19th at 4 pm EST, and will run to Monday, March 24th at 4 pm EST. The promotion will be exclusive to SAE’s website at http://www.screenarchives.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - this is a way to thank you, our intrepid aficionados, for all your support these 3 amazing years, and to give many of you a chance to catch up on titles you may have wanted but put on the back burner, and also to encourage new devotees to try some of our more esoteric back-catalogue items. And thank you again for your patience while the March titles have been delayed.

Over the course of these 36 months we have climbed a very steep learning curve, and that process continues apace. We’ll continue to refine what we do and adjust to the constantly changing demands of the home entertainment business. And believe it or not, we hear what you tell us, and we’ll always try our best to adapt (take that, eco cases!!)

Also on Wednesday, March 19th at 4 pm EST when the April pre-orders go live, we will have approximately 150 copies of THE FRONT signed by the lovely Miss Andrea Marcovicci, which will be available for the usual $100 or more of TT product - but this month your $100 will go a lot further if you wish to take advantage of the price-promotion gang of 36 - all of which are listed below. SAE suggests that for those of you wishing to take part in the promotion and also inclined to obtain a signed copy of THE FRONT, use the list below to pre-load your shopping cart so you’ll be able to proceed directly to the autographed copy icon.

Once again, this promotion is for 5 DAYS ONLY - so get ready to start your engines - (PLEASE NOTE: all titles in the promotion will be discounted by $10 - which means those that ordinarily retail for $29.95 will be $19.95, and those that are $34.95 will be $24.95.)

This is going to be a great way to pick up some titles I was hesitant on, but it's worth noting that of course you'll have to pick up at least six $29.95 titles to make it past $100 since five leaves you fifty cents short. (In George Costanza voice) THAT'S HOW THEY GET YA

Clearly they've cherry picked the poorer sellers, but regardless this could lead to some of the more popular ones on the list (I'm thinking Swamp Water, Bonjour Tristesse, Experiment in Terror, The Flint films, The Blue Lagoon and The Other) to soon be out of print. So if you want 'em, now's the time.
