While they're at it, Criterion should snag "Cutter's Way" from MGM and give another Passer film the royal treatment.

Any chance that a Cristian Mungiu boxset could be what's around the corner rather than individual releases for those two films? Including Occident and his shorts?

If not a box, then it'd be great if some of that stuff found its way onto the discs as extras. Criterion could also have fun with Tales from the Golden Age if they replicated the uncertainty of the original theatrical screenings by randomizing which version of the film you ended up seeing.

EDIT: I see that this has already been released in the US by Kimstim, no idea about the quality though.

Does anyone have an idea on when Criterion will release Bicycle Thieves on Blu-ray? I saw the movie in my Post-World War II Europe college class and I loved it. It's one of those B&W films that I think would look fantastic on Blu-ray, thanks to the stunning cinematography. My Post WW II Europe teacher said that there was going to be a restoration of it this year, but I can't find anything about it anywhere.

I'd be happy with a double bill of The Emigrants and The New Land.

Given Woody Allen's reluctance/refusal to add supplementary features to video releases of his past films, and further given Criterion's love of said supplements, I wonder if the only compromise would be a double-feature like that, or even a larger box set or box set series like the Zatoichi set ("Woody Allen: 1966-2006" or so) or the WCF box sets.

Assuming, of course, Criterion ever gains the rights to every Allen film.

They mentioned it last year during the Wexner chat. Something like "it's coming...in a few years." They had at that time just acquired a new 4K scan that they needed to start working on.

Whatever Criterion announce tonight won't give me goosebumps in the same way that this did earlier today.

Criterion can complement Twin Peaks' announcement by finally announcing Eraserhead + shorts. (And Mulholland Drive too..)

Is anyone else thinking that the January newsletter clue that we all thought was for Almodovar's TIE ME UP, TIE ME DOWN was actually for THE LIFE AQUATIC WITH STEVE ZISSOU that was announced in February? Generally, clues have captured a very specific element of the film, such as its title or a key plot point. The figure in TIE ME UP, TIE ME DOWN is neither of these things. I'm thinking we shouldn't expect the Almodovar (especially since he doesn't have a phantom page,) and check off the January newsletter clue as having been announced.

The newsletter clue did suggest the film's title, though, as it added a necktie (floating upward) to the scuba figure as seen in Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!
