It seems strange to me that the audio would be out of sync, especially when this disc was publicly screened with David Lynch in attendance. I know a lot of Europeans are getting their copies early - perhaps it is a problem with the boxes mastered in Europe?

They're the same discs across all regions. It's likely if there's a problem with UK discs, there's a problem with all of them. It'll be interesting to see this play out, but I'm confident that replacement discs will be made available if need be - people won't take this sitting down.

That's insane. If someone said that the promos on disc 4 or an interview with Tina Rathbone was out of sync, it would be easier to believe. This feature is practically this set's reason for existence and something fans have been waiting (and asking) for for literally over 20 years. We've all been told how much money, time, and work has gone into getting us these scenes. Seems like one monumental fuck up to let the audio slip a second or 2 at the last minute.

Agreed. If this is a widespread issue, I would imagine that fans will be pretty vocal in the coming days. It would be PR suicide to try to shrug this one off.

I know I'm not alone in this, but also that not everyone is doing the same thing (sorry to those folks) - but I'll be rewatching the whole series before dipping into the film and the deleted scenes again, so that should be plenty of time to release replacement discs, right...? Right?

EDIT: Just got the shipping notification for this and the Herzog set, so I guess I'll find out soon enough!

Paramount / CBS took the time to correct through replacement discs the sound issue on ST : TNG Season 1, so I'm quite confident that if replacement discs are needed here, they will be done quite quickly.

Might be just some copies affected as dugpa hasn't spotted any audio issues on his set and recommends making sure your BD player is upgraded with the latest firmware. I'll get my copy tomorrow and have been meaning to watch the Missing Scenes first anyway so will report back.

PS.: dugpa has emailed CBS about it though so they're looking into it.

I'm halfway through watching The Missing Pieces now, and haven't spotted any syncing issues.

I don't think any US buyers (at the very least) should be concerned.

Glad to hear it.

Longtime fans know it wouldn't be a true Twin Peaks home video release if something didn't go wrong. Still, I'll be as optimistic as caution allows. I've got a region-free player and a pair of consoles I'll be testing the disc on when it shows up tomorrow, so if I notice any issues, I'll be sure to sound off.

Admittedly I don't really have an ear for such things, but if there is a sync issue on the UK deleted scenes then it must be so slight to be completely imperceptible to me.

No audio issues on my copy. The new transfer of FWWM is a beauty by the way.

Random thoughts: Among the deleted scenes, the following are highlights:

The extended Convenience store scene blew my mind. This is so going to be a fan favourite. The scene at the Haywards is extremely moving, and so is the Palmers trying to speak Norwegian together. Had those two scenes been in the film, it'd have addressed concerns of some of the original reviews that the film was too bleak. Someone wrote somewhere recently in defense of FWWM that it was Lynch's most humane film and these two deleted scenes bear that out.

There is a lovely shot of Laura's corpse floating in the river at dawn that'd have been nice to see in the film proper.

To be honest, regarding the post-Lodge scenes and within the context of the film, it only makes sense to include Cooper's second scene with Little Mike and then from there dissolve into the film's proper finale. The post-Lodge sequence with Cooper, Truman and Hayward, while nice to see, doesn't fit into the film.

Going to work on my alternative edit of FWWM this week.

Delving into the Between Two Worlds features and the FWWM retro next...

Glad to hear to good news on the FWWM transfer. We were already watching the series again when the Blu set was announced and are currently at about the 2/3 mark (spreading it out to no more than one episode per week; that dire James/Evelyn subplot is about to wrap). I'm sure it's going to be tempting to start over again from the beginning once I get look at the new transfers, but we'll probably just keep moving forward at this point. This is my wife's second time through the show (the first being back when we first started dating around 18 (!) years ago), though it's my....I have no no idea how many times I've seen it now. I watched and recorded it when it first aired, rewatching the tapes over the summer between seasons, plus I probably watched the entire series another 7 or 8 times in the years after that. I'm seen the film many times, too, and I've found it only more upsetting as the years go by. I still get so wrapped up in the filmmaking, the atmosphere, and, especially, the score that it's still very much worthwhile for me to revisit it, but damn if it isn't a gut-wrenching experience.

As far as the deleted scenes go, I can't wait to see them, mostly because it will be like getting a long lost episode/alternate reality movie. That being said, I waited for years to be able to see the Blue Velvet deleted scenes, and I still haven't watched them yet. I tend to swing back & forth on things like this, on the one hand thinking, "Yes, I want to see everything I can from a favorite film," to (switching to a music example), "Do I really need five different takes of "Willie Nelson" from The Complete Jack Johnson Sessions?"

I haven't seen the TP deleted scenes, but the Blue Velvet ones, as you said are edited together by Lynch into a watchable form, and although inessential, are anything but a chore or retread.

Yeah, from what I've heard I gather the BV scenes are certainly worth checking out (& my comparison of outtakes from a film to alternate takes in music doesn't really make sense). I guess I'm just surprised at myself, having waited so long to see something & then once the opportunity arises getting kind of "meh" about it.

Maybe I'm just incredibly unlucky but my Sony S760 BD player won't read half the discs in the set even after I upgraded to the latest firmware. Discs 2, 6 and 9 won't load at all (had to watch Disc 9 on my PC this morning to watch the Missing Pieces) and Disc 5 freezes after you select Play Episodes. Have submitted a Replacement Form to Amazon but if anyone else is having similar or the same problems, please share. Not especially upset since I was able to watch the Missing Scenes and new interviews and the retro on FWWM at least but a bit stunned at the number of discs not working.

Either I got a dodgy copy or my BD player doesn't play along for some reason. If it's the player, well, my Oppo DVD player has given up the ghost after many years recently so I'm eventually going to get a second Blu-Ray player to compliment my Sony.

PS.: Laura's wicked smile at the fan is even scarier than Laura Dern's distorted face in Inland Empire!

A question for anyone else who's received this - does the main part of the package with the disc pages come out of the box, or is it attached? Mine popped right out, and is covered in glue on the underside. However, there was a slip of paper that said "Fire Walk With Me" underneath of it with a bunch of dirt artwork, so I'm thinking that might be a deliberate nod to the locket? I'm just wondering if I should be pursuing replacement packaging here.

I can take some pictures if need be, it's really quite charming even if it is a packaging defect.

EDIT: Here's a photo. I'm really torn, as it's obviously a packaging error but I'm thrilled with the fact that I uncovered hidden treasure, and it makes it a lot easier to flip between the pages of the digi. The "Fire Walk With Me" bit is its own scrap of paper:

Mine popped right out too. AND I have the audio sync issue too...really disapointed.

Just realized that after the final disc there's a magnetic door that opens to the dirt design and the "Fire Walk With Me" paper. Sigh. Confirms that it's indeed a defect. However, I think I'm keeping it, as it makes navigating the set much easier.

If the issue is just that the glue no longer sticks, you should be able to fix it by peeling away the glue remnants and then going back over the same area with a hot glue gun. I had to do something similar with my Ford at Fox set.

I don't own a hot glue gun and purchasing one for fixing this set that I'm not all that sure I want to fix. But thanks for the tip! :)

Why wouldn't you just have Amazon send you a new one?

You can buy a hot glue gun for under $10 on Amazon, and it can serve many purposes. It's the only gun I own and I feel safer at home just knowing that it's there. You should consider adding one to your next order of OOP DVDs.

A couple more people have reported the audio glitch on blu-ray.com and on dugpa's forum, including some American users. If it's only Disc 9 with FWWM and the Missing Pieces then rather than making people send the entire set back, Paramount/CBS should only ask for that one disc to be sent back to them for replacement. Meanwhile, I'm hoping that my player will play nice with the new set from Amazon (getting it tomorrow).

What I read here and there seems to indicate that the setup plays a lot on how noticeable the glitch is, or that some discs are glitched and others aren't.

Anyway, it will still be better than what happened in France with the Season 2 Part 1 DVD set from TF1 (yes : the whole series was divided in 3 boxsets... S1, S2P1, S2P2) : the packaging was with overlapping discs, and the overlapping was wrongly done, meaning half the discs were bent. Of course, past a certain point, you couldn't read them properly (I think there were 4 episodes per disc, and that on these bent discs, you could only read the 1st episode and half of the 2nd one...).
