Re: Forthcoming Lists Discussion and Random Speculation Vol.
Although evidently Scorsese was involved in the restoration, so I don't know what to think anymore.
Also, is no one else nervous about the fate of future WCF volumes from Criterion, given that MoC has run into "contractual problems" with their own WCF series?

It's probably planned to be a December thing for them so we have at least that long to really begin to worry. Plus they have enough films up on Hulu to suggest another boxset.

What unreleased WCF films do they have up on Hulu now?

The WCP and the WCF are the same thing. The first line of the mission statement on the WCF website:zedz wrote:I speculated about this a while back, but swo pointed out that the WCF and the WCP are not the same thing. WTF?
The World Cinema Project (WCP) is a program of The Film Foundation dedicated to preserving and restoring neglected films from around the world – in particular, those countries lacking the financial and technical ability to do so.
Just Law of the Border and Revenge (and ...but Film is My Mistress, if you count it)swo17 wrote:What unreleased WCF films do they have up on Hulu now?

Re: Forthcoming Lists Discussion and Random Speculation Vol.
Yes, and just to drive the point home, the title of Criterion's set refers to Scorsese's WCP whereas MoC's refers to the World Cinema Foundation. BUT the news about Sayat Nova originally stated that the restoration was by the World Cinema Fund, another entity entirely. Here is their website.jwd5275 wrote:The WCP and the WCF are the same thing. Given the link I just referenced in an earlier post though, I suspect that that original article may have been mistaken, and that it was in fact the World Cinema Foundation/Project that restored the film.

Re: Forthcoming Lists Discussion and Random Speculation Vol.
It looks like the Tootsie rumors are true/it will probably be announced for November.
Also, in regards to the WCP: Anyone aware of when they are going to announce the 2014 restorations? And Scorsese really needs to be more creative when naming these things (what's next? World fund for Cinema, World Cinema Fund+Fun).Wexner talk people wrote:“Join Criterion Collection Producers Kim Hendrickson and Curtis Tsui as they provide a behind-the-scenes look at Criterion’s operation, focusing on recent and upcoming releases such as Federico Fellini’s La Dolce Vita (1960), Alfonso Cuarón’s Y tu mamá también (2001), Sydney Pollack’s Tootsie (1982), and John Ford’s My Darling Clementine (1946), among others.”

Dare I ask if Criterion will pay fitting tribute to Robin Williams and remaster The Fisher King?

And according to the pattern, which may or may not be intentional, the next should be a talkie. Limelight. Bam.captveg wrote:We are definitely overdue for another Chaplin

Re: Forthcoming Lists Discussion and Random Speculation Vol.
November is traditionally their biggest release month, to take advantage of the full holiday shopping season. Though December has traditionally been their smallest release month, they sometimes release box sets then.FrauBlucher wrote: I do think the Mulholland Drive will get announced for Nov to take advantage of the B&N sale or December in time for the Christmas/Hanakkah gift giving season. Because nothing says Christmas/Hanakkah like a David Lynch film.
Time Bandits will probably be announced over the next two 15ths as well.

I'm hoping for the decalogue or apu trilogy for the November box set

Maybe they could release it next year. Criterion released it on laserdisc, so maybe Sony could license it to Criterion so that they could make a Blu-ray with more bonus features.Peter McM wrote:Dare I ask if Criterion will pay fitting tribute to Robin Williams and remaster The Fisher King?
Anyway, guesses for November, based on the rumors and my desires:
Hellman Westerns box
Time Bandits upgrade
Bicycle Thieves upgrade
Limelight
Tootsie
Moonrise Kingdom

I know the Apu Trilogy has been unofficially confirmed, but is there any evidence that the Decalogue is coming, or is it just conjecture?movielocke wrote:I'm hoping for the decalogue or apu trilogy for the November box set

I think it's mostly conjecture, but I could be wrong. Some people thought that the 10-story apartment building from last year's New Year's drawing was a clue.rwiggum wrote:I know the Apu Trilogy has been unofficially confirmed, but is there any evidence that the Decalogue is coming, or is it just conjecture?movielocke wrote:I'm hoping for the decalogue or apu trilogy for the November box set

Limelife hasn't been updated since mid-July. I'm glad Criterion is putting it back in print!

BAMcinématek and Criterion are promoting a "pictures with Chris Marker's cat" contest on Twitter. Any chance of getting more Marker soon?

Also, wasn't there a confirmation recently that we'd see A Master Builder soon? Did that mean "announced tomorrow" soon? Or will it be a few months down the road?

Icarus Films is the company you seek (for both Level Five and 'more Marker'), not Criterion.sir_luke wrote:That's great news. I'd love to see more of his work.knives wrote:They did just release as part of a festival Level Five.
