So we might see titles such as Polanski's 'Death And The Maiden' and Levinson's 'Wag The Dog'. That would be very welcome.

Also, does anyone know if this deal covers those Paramount titles for which Warner now has BD/DVD distribution rights?

Paul Meier who published "One Big Soul - An Oral History of Terrence Malick" said on facebook that Malick is rumored to have edited a 4th cut in 2013 or 2014.

Wasn't that likely just a photo of a bunch of their books? Even though it's OOP, they probably still have some copies in their offices. If it were a photo of new copies of the Man Who Fell book, that would mean that they'd already been printed and shipped to Criterion from the plant, yet it hasn't even been announced that it will be coming back.

Which makes it all the more bizarre to me that a number of folks seem to be predicting a "complete Preston Sturges" box. Which I'm guessing should also include a Paramount title. What evidence is there that Criterion might be doing more than upgrading to Blu Sullivan's Travels and The Lady Eve?

As for the Wexner talk about a WB deal, that's awesome. And I agree with those excited about special editions of The New World, McCabe & Mrs. Miller and Crash. But I'm hoping Criterion will be looking at obscure overlooked titles too, ones like Michael Tolkin's The New Age, whose only video release in this century has been a brief blip on Netflix streaming.

Amen to that. Maybe Sidney Lumet's Prince of the City (which he apparently recorded a commentary for) and completely unreleased titles like Bill Gunn's STOP (never give up hope, dammit!).

I made a quick list of WB titles that Criterion would probably be interested in considering, mostly titles that are only on DVD or have never been on DVD. I left out a few like Gun Crazy that seem likely to become Archive upgrades/releases and Ball of Fire that don't feel like HD priorities (for anyone but us). And I don't really know much about the silent or pre-code holdings they might be pursuing. I'd definitely be curious to hear from others what you think I'm missing.

I honestly had forgotten that The Rapture (which I love about as much as The New Age) was also a New Line (technically Fine Line) property. Night Moves and Freaks seem right on. Scarecrow is another very good call. SubUrbia has been talked about as possibly forthcoming for years now. But isn't The Devils beset by all sorts of rights and elements issues -- even the BFI version is DVD only?

Scarecrow had a restoration and theatrical run a few months ago as well, so hopefully somebody has BD coming.
