Is that compression on the jpg image, or is The Night Porter a "grainy" film?

The cover is supposed to look like she took it on her flip-phone's camera, as the film takes place in 2002

Since going back to separate Blu-ray and DVD releases, other than Eraserhead, Criterion has only included inserts. Not sure if it's a coincidence or if it's an economical choice.

Well in this case, it's thematically appropriate anyway.

Well that answer's the question of why StudioCanal's logo was on the sell sheet. The next question is, other than the Tati set, what else is coming (back)?

Pretty strong recent evidence that Criterion and Studio Canal have something going on.

Grand Illusion was heavily hinted at on their Instagram.

I would think the first step would be to bring back the OOP DVDs and Blu-rays that need nothing more than new copies made. This would be titles that have no need of upgrading for a/v, bonus or booklet content, such as Army of Shadows or Pierrot le fou.

I think a lot of the OOP Canals coming back hinges on whether Lionsgate is willing to sublicense them out. The Criterion Canals currently in print (or soon to be released) all appear to have fallen outside the Canal/Lionsgate deal (La Haine, The Vanishing, the Tati set). Lionsgate's Grand Illusion is only two years old and doesn't seem to be OOP, so if Criterion is actually doing it then that could open the proverbial floodgates. The rumblings of Twilight Time trying to get Extreme Prejudice (another Lionsgate-licensed Canal title) are also promising.

Swimming Horses apparently has a job working for Cal Trans and is making covers for Environmental Impact reports. Will any of this month's covers top this latest masterpiece? Brad the Turtle wants to know.

Fantastic cover for La ciénaga, since the swimming pool is where the 'inciting incident' occurs! And hasn't it actually just happened just on the edge of the cover?

I love the Petra Von Kant cover! And even though I'm not a fan of the film, the My Winnepeg cover is perfect. The Palm Beach Story cover makes me feel like James Cagney just shoved a grapefruit into my eyes...

It's amazing how quickly that cover deflated my elation for The Palm Beach Story getting a spine number. Actually, I'm still pretty thrilled (4k no less!), but my god. Conceptually it's sort of there, and I love how they worked in the 'hunting on the train' sequence, but go to any tacky beachfront and you'll find better caricature art than this (if that's even the point, since it's clearly supposed to be tasteless).

To be honest, I am not sold on any of the new covers for this month, except maybe La ciénaga, which I haven't seen. My Winnipeg is fine (and I'm certainly going to buy it), but that poor horse! Thematically speaking, it's like Come and See getting the Criterion treatment only to have the dying cow's twitching, horror-filled eyes on the cover.

The Palm Beach Story is astonishingly bad. Like I can't believe it's real bad. How could they approve such a monstrosity?

My Winnipeg and Petra are absolutely phenomenal, however. Especially the latter...it's exquisite.

Someone said "You know our cover for the last Claudette Colbert movie we released, how they said it couldn't possibly be worse? Let's show them worse!"

Maurice Vellekoop also did cover for La Cage aux Folles, but I didn't care for that film, so I didn't even notice that cover.
