Re: Arrow Wish List
The UK rights are mostly with Second Sight, it would seem, but picking up the Takeshi Kitano titles BCI Eclipse was never able to get out in the US seems like a good fit for Arrow, if possible...Teshigahara's Rikyu, too, was rumored to have been coming out through them and has since languished.

Based on this post, Violent Cop, Boiling Point, A Scene at the Sea, Getting Any, Kids Return, Hana-Bi, and Takeshis'. As far as I know these all remain OOP/MIA in North America (could have sworn someone put Takeshis' out, but that might just have been in Canada). And though Second Sight has done DVDs in the UK, maybe the Blu rights are up for grabs?

Re: Arrow Wish List
Was there some reason that hasn't been discussed as to why none of the RKO titles in the UK (from Universal) have been licensed to either MoC or Arrow? It seems like a perfect opportunity to do Val Lewton, or well, any of the other thousands of RKO titles out there that will likely never see the light of Bluray in the US from WB.

Re: Arrow Wish List
I'm going to guess that it's down to materials. Universal themselves have to pay Warner US to get access to them, which is why the UK Blu-Ray release of Citizen Kane had a pretty poor transfer in comparison to the U.S. - Warner were asking too much to use their transfer.Minkin wrote:Was there some reason that hasn't been discussed as to why none of the RKO titles in the UK (from Universal) have been licensed to either MoC or Arrow? Re: Arrow Wish List
Absolutely spot on - that is indeed the reason. There's no point releasing, say, Out of the Past if Arrow can't get their hands on the same gorgeous master that fuelled the US release.

So presumably those rights reasons had to do with Arrow finally succumbing to my mind control?MichaelB (a few months ago) wrote:None, I suspect, since Second Sight recently postponed its UK release for unspecified rights reasons.swo17 wrote:I wonder what the odds are of Arrow putting out Brian Yuzna's Society. For my next trick, I wonder what the odds are of Arrow putting out a Borowczyk-style Ruiz set...

So does anyone know what's up with Blood for Dracula and Flesh for Frankenstein? Been sitting on the fence about getting the Japanese Blu-ray of the former. Are these even a possibility for Arrow (UK or US)?

This is more for Arrow Video USA but count this for the UK division too since somebody out there will want it; Nomads. John McTiernan's Horror film from 1986 and according to Arnold Schwarzenegger, it's what got McTiernan to direct Predator.

It would be great if someone like Arrow could make this happen. Preferably with the inclusion of Sonatine.Cronenfly wrote:Based on this post, Violent Cop, Boiling Point, A Scene at the Sea, Getting Any, Kids Return, Hana-Bi, and Takeshis'. Re: Arrow Wish List
I know Arrow like their crime TV series right now, so how about Romanzo criminale Series 1 on Blu-ray? A bit of a gap in the market as whilst the second series is available on Blu-ray, with English subtitles even, there's no HD release of the first series.

Re: Arrow Wish List
Would absolutely love more Kitano on blu-ray. I have a few on DVD (Hana-bi, Kikujiro) but they're the kind of films that would benefit from an HD upgrade and I'd love to see them all collected. Be a shame if Second Sight were holding the rights and not doing anything with them (talking of which, do they still have Lord of the Flies, or Black Orpheus?). Talking of Japanese films though, I would love to see Takashi Shimizu's Ju-On: The Grudge and Takashi Koizumi's After the Rain also see the HD treatment one day.Adam Grikepelis wrote:It would be great if someone like Arrow could make this happen. Some more films I'd love to see Arrow Video release:
Vampire's Kiss (John Bierman, 1988)
Brainstorm (Douglas Trumbull, 1983)
Rollerball (Norman Jewison, 1975)
Zardoz (John Boorman, 1974)
Communion (Philippe Mora, 1989)
The Keep (Michael Mann, 1983)
Cat People (Paul Schrader, 1982)
Hard Boiled (John Woo, 1992)
The Killer (John Woo, 1989)
Walker (Alex Cox, 1987)
Straight To Hell (Alex Cox, 1987)
Death Rides a Horse (Guilio Petroni, 1967)
Compañeros (Sergio Corbucci, 1970)
The Great Silence (Sergio Corbucci, 1968)
The Mercenary (Sergio Corbucci, 1968)
El Norte (Gregory Nava, 1983)
Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid (Carl Reiner, 1982)
Three Amigos (John Landis, 1986)
And maybe under the Arrow Academy banner:
La Jetée/Sans Soleil (Chris Marker, 1962/1983)
The Wages of Fear (Henri-Georges Clouzot, 1953)
The Tenant (Roman Polanski, 1976)
Targets (Peter Bogdanovich, 1968)
Paper Moon (Peter Bogdanovich, 1973)
Network (Sidney Lumet, 1976)
Medium Cool (Haskell Wexler, 1969)
Bound For Glory (Hal Ashby, 1976)
Plus that potential Sturges box set they've been teasing at now and then...also a Jodorowsky set would be incredible if Tartan don't still have hold of them?

Re: Arrow Wish List
The Japanese Blu-Ray of Hard Boiled is pretty good apparently so Arrow could look into the master used for that release and stick Tartan's most recent subs on it. John Woo would be a natural fit for their mainline.

Re: Arrow Wish List
Though Arrow have the rights to Amour Fou and are releasing it on DVD in March I really hope they consider a Blu Ray release for this.
Aside from being one of the very best films of 2014 it is also the most gorgeously designed and beautiful looking films I have every seen. Any still could't be taken from the film, framed and hung in a gallery.
Please Arrow, release this on Blu Ray!

Re: Arrow Wish List
Spent the past two weeks going through all the films & bonus content on all the Arrow Brian De Palma releases; would love to see the line continued. Obviously a lot of his remaining films are with studios that don't really license or are too successful to license, but how about:

I'd love to see Corbucci's The Great Silence, which looks like a good fit in Arrow's line up but is also in dire need of a proper release.

Re: Arrow Wish List
I would love to see any and all works by Ken Russell among Arrow's output, preferably in a form of a giant all-encompassing box set with all his films newly restored. I have no doubts Arrow will choose the only proper shape for the box;)

The UK DVD was supposed to be good but is now OOP. I missed the boat on this one too.tenia wrote:I'd love to see Corbucci's The Great Silence, which looks like a good fit in Arrow's line up but is also in dire need of a proper release.

Re: Arrow Wish List
I'm making my way through the Stray Cat Rock set and my basic reaction is a shrugging "watered-down Wakamatsu", which prompts the question: what about actual Wakamatsu? There were those Blaq Out box sets a few years ago, so presumably those transfers are available, and it seems like that work would be a natural fit for Arrow.
Which prompts the even more tantalizing question of Yoshida: not quite as clear a fit for the label, but an incredible body of work, available in excellent restorations, and yet no English-language label has taken up the challenge in the seven (seven!) years since Carlotta issued the first sets.

Re: Arrow Wish List
Carlotta has issued an increbible number of movies (19 !) from Yoshida, and even 20 episodes from "Beauté de la beauté" in 2013. I'm not sure however if any of them is up to a proper BD release.

Seems like Frankenheimer's The Train and Cronenberg's Videodrome will be coming to Arrow.

The former awesome if true, considering many of us missed out on the Twilight Time release! Was this posted on FB/Twitter/Bluray.com boards?

Re: Arrow Wish List
+1 for Yoshida, but I don't know if it's really Arrow's niche (more MoC or Criterion maybe) - but really there is so much Japanese stuff from the 60's-70's crying out for English-friendly release (Nakahira, Hani, et al.), it would really be a job for yet another dedicated label!
