I look forward to the award nominations for Hoffman's hair as best supporting actor.

Apparently his character is an amateur Rastafarian trying to grow his hair long enough for dreadlocks. No, really

For some reason, I expected Hoffman's visual style to be gritty and handheld. I don't know, I just had that feeling. And I was pleasantly surprised to see the eye-catching frame compositions and cinematography in that trailer. The perfect description of that is "cute" - but it seems to have a lot of potential, as Hoffman's character seems quite troubled. I am rooting for PSH - as he's a very talented actor and someone who deserves any accolades he gets, but I'm even more excited to see Amy Ryan's performance - there are very few actresses who are brighter and more charming working today. Even within the over-the-top confines (not mutually exclusive!) The Office, she stood out in every scene she was in.

I think this film has a better chance of getting a Criterion spine number than Rivette's take.
EDIT: I like that a banner at the bottom of the trailer urges you to watch the film online, while it's clear that it hasn't been released yet! :)

Why is it that actors think they should be able to direct films too?

Because the best ones have an innate understanding of the process that comes with spending time on sets watching other people direct and they know how to talk to fellow actors to elicit the best possible performance from them. Orson Welles, Charlie Chaplin, Laurence Olivier, John Cassavetes, Charles Laughton, Clint Eastwood, Warren Beatty, and Woody Allen all seemed to do okay with it.

Just finished watching Jack Goes Boating for the first time. Excellent little indy film, with a poignant story & fantastic, understated performances. Both sad & funny, this is a great movie to watch during the cold winter days, as you're waiting for the Spring/Summer to get here...

PSH played a great role as the sad sack-ish schlub Jack who was trying to impress Connie (AR)

by learning how to cook (even though he had never cooked) & also learning how to swim (so he could take her boating in the summer). I liked how he rarely took off his woolen cap during the winter, even when he was indoors...I got the impression that PSH was playing himself in some ways...
One of my favorite scenes was when
Spoiler
Jack accidentally burned the food for the big dinner party that he had worked so hard for, then went off in front of this friends....it was nice to see his friends calm him down, even though they were all obviously upset as well....
It was quite

sad to see the deterioration of Clyde & Lucy's relationship, while at the same time seeing the beginning of Jack & Connie's....
AR was great in this role; though everyone probably most remembers her in her comedic role opposite S. Carell in The Office, I also really liked her in a couple of dramas, i.e. Gone Baby Gone, as well as a small but important role in The Changeling (Clint Eastwood)....
