Well the unidentified blotch at the bottom of the new years clue could be a map of France with the top burning.

The interview with Andrés di Tella on La ciénaga features a couple of clips from and discussion of Luis Puenzo's The Official Story, which are credited to Westchester Films in the credits. I'm curious as to whether this suggests that a Criterion edition of The Official Story might be likely.

I was wondering if there's any chance of Milos Forman's Ragtime coming to Criterion? There's an out of print Paramount DVD, so I'm curious how likely it would be for Criterion to get their hands on it.

I for one would love it if it did. As there was a long-ago semi-confirmation of Forman's Taking Off, which I've been waiting veeerrrry patiently for, they could maybe be announced the same month.

I keep hoping Criterion release Valmont although now I'm starting to suspect Shout Factory will do it given their relationship with MGM.

Worth keeping an eye on: Knoxville's Big Ears Festival will host a film program curated by Criterion along with Jim Jarmusch and Michael Gira of Swans. The festival runs March 27-29.

A new 2K restoration of Grey Gardens is set to premiere in March. Any chance that Criterion would rerelease it with the updated transfer?

I'm pretty certain that the very same 2K transfer already features on the Blu-ray.

Yeah, I'm looking at my copy of the 2013 blu ray, and it says: "This new 2K digital restoration ..."

Okay. I guess they're just touring it for the 40th anniversary.

Has there been any chatter about more John Ford? Liberty Valance, for example?

The Long Voyage Home was part of the same Westchester Deal with Stagecoach, Foreign Correspondent, To Be or Not to Be and I Married a Witch.

Not sure of anything else from other studios.

Announcements likely this Monday. One title I'm hoping for is "Clouds of Sils Maria", starring Juliette Binoche and dir. by Olivier Assayas. Their last collaboration, "Summer Hours" was my first Criterion blu-ray and still one of my favs. What's the likelihood of this new title going straight to CC in the U.S.?

I would say it's likely to come sooner or later, given their history with Assayas and the fact that IFC picked up the rights to the film. Along with Monday being announcement day, it's also Robert Flaherty's birthday. Nanook of the North was recently listed as OOP on MMM. A week or two ago, Criterion posted a picture of Carl Davis at work. Possibly on a new score for the film?

Good possibility announcements will be Tuesday as there is a holiday (Presidents Day) in the states on Monday. In the past, Criterion has bumped announcements because of holidays.

It won't go to CC before it has a regular film run. It was supposed to have opened in the states already, but the release date kept being pushed back so the film could play festivals. IMDb is now showing 10 April as its U.S. (limited) release date.

Good to know. I live in Indianapolis, the town that quality cinema tends to pass by (The Great Beauty, as far as I know, only saw one screen in the entire state of Indiana!)

I've wondered about the idea of either a complete Flaherty set or a boxset - as Criterion has the rights to at least Man of Aran, Louisiana Story, Jungle Boy (upgrade from Eclipse). Tabu is still a mystery in R1 - as Milestone lost the rights a few years ago, and it still hasn't turned up anywhere (in R1 that is). I'm not sure if the WB deal would make them place White Shadows in the South Seas at the top of their list (and did Moana ever get an actual release? I just see a DVD-R on Amazon - that doesn't look like any company is attached to it). I'm also unsure of his other shorts / Story of Michelangelo. At the very least, I could see a boxset with the first two I mentioned.

I think I posted about this in Flaherty's own thread, but the 'sound' version of Moana was recently restored, and I believe it premiered at the NYFF last year. It hasn't been released on DVD or Blu-Ray as of yet.

It looks like there won't be a Wim Wenders "Road Trilogy" boxset. Wim indicates that the films will be released individually and the first two to be released by Criterion will be The Goalie's Anxiety at the Penalty Kick and The American Friend.

http://www.indiewire.com/article/berlin ... o-20150211" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

A lot of these films will be screening here and at MoMA, but aren't available on DVD. I've heard rumors that the Criterion Collection is working with you to release a lot of your old work.

Criterion has already done great work with a few of my films. They did the Blu-ray restoration for "Wings of Desire." At the time, three years ago, it wasn't yet visible that we could one day do a 4K restoration, but there are the pioneers of their time and they take great pride in what they do and they're the best at what they do. I'm happy that we're associated with them for some of the other films as well.

One that we're definitely going to release soon is one that has been lost, "The Goalie's Anxiety at the Penalty Kick." That's been unavailable for 35 years or so. We have so many now I don't know where to start. "The American Friend" will be released in its old glory. I think that's the next two. "Alice in the Cities" took the longest time because it was the most damaged. It was shot on 16mm and in the '70s we made over 100 prints of that negative and it was shredded to pieces. That was the toughest and longest process. All of them will eventually be released.

I can't see anything in that article suggesting the Road Trilogy movies will now be coming individually.
