Will they announce on Presidents Day? Can't remember the precedent for half-assed holidays.

Wasn't that spurred by the amazon.com pre-orders going up on Friday, though? I think Criterion's official website announcement still didn't come until Tuesday.swo17 wrote:Last year they...announced the Friday before.

Re: Forthcoming Lists Discussion and Random Speculation Vol.
I believe CriterionCast posted an article revealing the April 2014 slate because Amazon accidentally listed them for pre-order early. The actual Criterion website did not confirm the titles until the day after President's Day.

What? Criterion is releasing an important film that hasn't already been released multiple times in decent editions? Who do they think they are? Arrow?ianungstad wrote:It looks like there won't be a Wim Wenders "Road Trilogy" boxset. Wim indicates that the films will be released individually and the first two to be released by Criterion will be The Goalie's Anxiety at the Penalty Kick and The American Friend.

Re: Forthcoming Lists Discussion and Random Speculation Vol.
Perhaps I am overthinking things, but The Man Who Fell to Earth is curiously missing it's SRP listing. Somehow, someway, I hope this points toward's the title's reissuing (so I can finally buy it). I can't find another title on the website missing it's SRP listing. I think I'm just being irrational.
Edit: Looks like there is some further "evidence" a few pages back on this subject. Maybe the original commenter on Instagram thought that Criterion would be releasing the film in February, when in fact they were only going to announce it. I apologize to anyone who finds all of this fanatical wishful thinking.

Re: Forthcoming Lists Discussion and Random Speculation Vol.
If The Man Who Fell to Earth came back, would they upgrade it in some way or would they just continue pressing the same edition as before? By the way, Le Cercle Rouge and Army of Shadows also have their SRPs missing.

According to the Wayback Machine, The Man Who Fell to Earth lost its MSRP sometime between Dec 19th 2013 and April 4th 2014. So whatever the reason for it, it's unlikely to be related to today's announcements.

Ah yes, I knew I was behaving irrationally. Nevertheless, I do believe that The Man Who Fell to Earth will be reissued soon. Lets just hope it's sooner rather than later.jindianajonz wrote:According to the Wayback Machine, The Man Who Fell to Earth lost its MSRP sometime between Dec 19th 2013 and April 4th 2014. I predict Limelight, because it's my new "been predicting it for months on end" title. (Seriously, the last Chaplin title - City Lights - came out in November 2013).

Re: Forthcoming Lists Discussion and Random Speculation Vol.
Besides the fact that a few Criterion sell sheets/new releases have had the Studio Canal logo on them in recent months, is there any actual evidence to believe any Canal titles are coming back? I know it's fun to just use this thread to post guesses all the time, but every month without any basis in reality people speculate with such certainty that titles are coming back.
So please correct me if I'm wrong, but they aren't and there's absolutely no reason to believe any Canal title is coming back in print from Criterion.

Re: Forthcoming Lists Discussion and Random Speculation Vol.
The other "clue" would be that Lionsgate has gone from releasing a trickle of Blu-rays to releasing no Blu-rays whatsoever, and relegating the SC titles to DVD-only MOD releases. Which could indicate that SC wants Criterion to release the Blu-rays. Which would in an of itself be a bit unprecedented if Criterion couldn't concurrently release DVDs if LG still has that format locked up.Drucker wrote:Besides the fact that a few Criterion sell sheets/new releases have had the Studio Canal logo on them in recent months, is there any actual evidence to believe any Canal titles are coming back? But that's it, really, so it's not much to go on.

Re: Forthcoming Lists Discussion and Random Speculation Vol.
No, not a lot of hard evidence. Like you said, the StudioCanal logo has been featured on a couple of recent releases and Trafic is featured in the new Jacques Tati box set, but there is not a lot of evidence otherwise. Criterion has gone on the record claiming that they do have an interest in putting the titles back in print, but I would probably say it's a lost cause at this point. I still find it odd that they would post this image on Instagram, especially since Criterion loves to give clues concerning upcoming releases.Drucker wrote:Is there any actual evidence to believe any Canal titles are coming back?
Like I said in my original post, I was likely being irrational and acknowledged my thought processing was nothing more than wishful thinking. For a thread where people mostly post lists of predictions, sometimes without "any basis in reality," everything I posted wasn't out of line.I know it's fun to just use this thread to post guesses all the time, but every month without any basis in reality people speculate with such certainty that titles are coming back.

I'm a little bit confused by the fact that there's no releases until the 19th. Usually there's a week off but is it usually ever that late in the month?
