Did John "Oscar winning screenwriter of 12 Years A Slave" Ridley create a new TV show called American Crime? Does anyone know what channel it will be on?

So all the Best Picture nominees have won something. Has that ever happened before?

Keaton was robbed, but he like the rest of the Birdman cast looks like he's having a blast regardless

First BP to be super cool like the way they hid the camera & did one shot. And all the dialogue about balls

Is there any precedent for a repeat from a filmmaker the immediate following year? I just can't imagine them rewarding the same guy for the big prize twice in a row (though obviously Leo's got a narrative)The Narrator Returns wrote:I trust I'll see you all at a screening of The Revenant.

Re: Awards Season 2014
Funny that some people on Twitter are predicting people on Fox News losing their minds about American Sniper losing. Would be interesting if that happens, considering Fox put out Birdman.

Hm - I know his next film is to be animated and not a very likely contender (unless they turn "the first animated one!" into its awards narrative), but I can't help but wonder if the fact of Anderson's surprising loss at the writing prize will make him seem to be overdue come the next time he makes a proper run at it (and I can't help but wonder if Budapest would have emerged way better if it were released later in the proper awards season).

Iñárritu's comments on Mexican immigrants definitely blew some air on those sparks; I would hope Patricia Arquette's comments on wage equality would be bipartisan, but we're talking about Fox News...flyonthewall2983 wrote:Funny that some people on Twitter are predicting people on Fox News losing their minds about American Sniper losing. I'm a Bird-fan but the screenplay win was silly.

Re: Awards Season 2014
"Birdman" is an odd Best Picture winner in terms of dialogue and what it's about. But it fits in the "won over more critically acclaimed film" category. What do think would have happened if "Selma" "Crash"-ed Best Picture?

Re: Awards Season 2014
Not that much actually. The narrative was definitely between it and Boyhood and anyone who was genuinely surprised at its win hasn't been paying attention. With MFunk's Crash comment I had thought The Imitation Game won which would definitely be more in line with such a reaction at least at first.

People would realize that Selma is a pretty good movie?

Re: Awards Season 2014
This is a nonsense reason but I really do think, looking back a decade from now, Birdman will be viewed as a quintessential example of what a film in the 2010's was. It's just so stereotypically modern, thanks partially to its highly digital look. I think that's why it deserved it more than Boyhood.ordinaryperson wrote:"Birdman" is an odd Best Picture winner in terms of dialogue and what it's about. And I don't think people would have felt similar to Crash if Selma had won - Selma remains a huge critical and audience success and has a largely unsanitized perspective on race relations. Imitation Game would be the more appropriate "anger-inducing snub" as it has a similar over-sanitized Hollywood perspective of homosexuality as many feel Crash had of race issues.

Welp, i'm bummed Leviathan/P.T./Wes didn't win.
I haven't been following the awards leading up to this one like I have in the past but was Eddie Redmayne a surprise winner?
