Exactly. I doubted myself when Trebek said "You shouldn't have gone for the obvious answer" because I thought "John Brown" was the obvious answer!

Garrison was a pretty good answer. It was the first thing that popped into my mind, but then I moved on to Brown.

I missed the Meet Me In St. Louis question, which filled me with abject shame.

Chu just keeps getting better and better. Over 44k going into final, and even though Alex tried to goad him into going for the all time one day total (75k) he "just" bet 14 and won for 58,200. So that's $238,200 after 8 days. Even before today's money he was in the top 10 all time Jeopardy! money winners.

For the first time I think we have someone that can really run for a while at this. Maybe not Ken Jennings long, but I don't see why this guy wouldn't get to 20 shows, and the way he plays for high money, maybe even become the all time money winner in regular play, which is (goes to wikipedia) Jennings at $2,520,700 (his one game record was 75k, but someone has done 77k, which I guess Alex or the staff got wrong or Wikipedia did).

This is the most fun I've had watching Jeopardy in a while. I'm kind of looking forward to seeing someone try to take him on, it's going to depend on someone else getting a daily double and making a big balls wager.

I'm actually surprised that it's taken this long for someone to drop that reference during an actual episode of the show.

Does anyone know if it's ever happened before? Seems like it would have. And/or has there ever been a Final Jeopardy that had to be canceled because all three contestants were in the red in advance? I at least know there have been rounds where no one came back the next day because all three contestants lost Final Jeopardy, but not sure if it's ever been over before it began!

That doesn't make sense though; it doesn't matter if all three people get Final Jeopardy wrong, because it's still the one with the highest score that moves on. The only times I ever saw no one move on was back in the day when you could only play a maximum of five games.

I think the overall rule is that you have to finish a round with a positive total to remain in contention. I assume that rule applies even if everyone has a negative score, regardless if one has the highest negative score. Having said that, I've never actually witnessed an episode end without a winner.

Of course it happens on the night I don't watch it. I've always wanted to see that happen.

I thought Brad had climbed out to safety but he got greedy and pushed his luck.

It got lost a bit in the dreadful splendor of it all but -$6800 has to be among the lowest totals ever, if not the single lowest (even worse than Wolf Blitzer.)

Some background. The three way $0 did happen once before.

That was sublime.

The fact that the game was played by co-champions in two of the slots just made it all the stranger.

That seemed like a fairly easy question too. Its always interesting what questions evade all 3 contestants like that. A couple weeks ago none could name the Valentine's Day Massacre despite the clue having the date and the word gangster in it.

Watching this show, I have noticed that historical chronology often eludes even seemingly intelligent people.

I guess Trebek brought up Lara Logan's sexual assault during the "getting to know you" part of the show during this week's "Power Players" round of shows.

I was amused to discover that current champ Nan Bauer is a former employee of The Criterion Collection (as mentioned on her website).

I just remembered a joke during the Monica Lewinsky scandal that I thought might have been the funniest, "Hillary has heard more 'sorrys' from Bill than told to Pauly Shore on Celebrity Jeopardy!"
