Since MoC have licenced the Bernards from Pathe and they've got one Renoir with Toni in the series, we might get Boudu Saved From Drowning in a month or two. Criterion have been dragging their heels on upgrading this film..

Yeah Park Circus already released it on Blu-ray in the UK back in April 2011! Been meaning to pick it up since hearing about it. Good transfer, reportedly.FrauBlucher wrote:...but isn't this out with Park Circus in the UK?
As for Pathé licensing, I wonder if Eureka (or a similar UK label) could get one of their other catalogue titles...Robert Altman's The Player, Steve McQueen's Hunger, Valerio Zurlini's The Desert of the Tartars, Steven Soderbergh's Kafka, Jean-Pierre Melville's Le Samouraï, Marcel Carné's Gates of the Night, Lynne Ramsay's Ratcatcher, or Luis Buñuel's Fever Mounts at El Pao?

Aye my mind went completely blank on this one. All the more embarrassing since I actually have the Park Circus BD on my Amazon wishlist!FrauBlucher wrote:..but isn't this out with Park Circus in the UK?
They still haven't announced their May replacement for the Fuller - hopefully tomorrow.

Re: MoC Forthcoming, Wishlist and Random Speculation
Yeah they seem to generally announce things randomly now...when they said a 'few days' I assumed Friday but sometimes it can mean the next week. We'll get an announcement soon I'm sure.Finch wrote:Aye my mind went completely blank on this one. As for why they've ditched the quarterly announcements for the time being, they gave this response on Facebook:
I thought that might be the case...was a bit strange after they did a big Q1 announcement (didn't they used to do 2 monthly ones?) which I had assumed would continue like that, and since then have randomly announced things, or in some cases they've been leaked due to Amazon listing them and then they've formally announced them quickly afterwards. We are taking a break from quarterly announcements at the moment, to try and ensure release dates don't slip. Instead we'll be drip feeding them one by one.
It's a shame we won't have big announcement days like they used to - I used to mark them on my calendar and set aside an hour. They haven't said they're going to scrap them completely...maybe when they've caught up on some titles where the release date had to move (such as Pickup On South Street). I'm sure they'll be back towards the end of the year, or at least I hope! Anyway, excited to find out what this next May title will be...it could be a Fox/Cohen/Pathé licensed title considering some of the recent output (though I would love them to do a few more Paramount and MGM ones too one day...Serpico and Harold & Maude announced on the same day was a huge deal for me).

Re: MoC Forthcoming, Wishlist and Random Speculation
I can't wait. I kept requesting this (along with Bogdanovich's Targets), including on their own forums, but didn't think they would actually release it! Best news for me personally since Serpico or Harold and Maude (two other films that were high on my wantlist).FrauBlucher wrote:Paper Moon (1973) coming to MoC

Arrow is high profile these days, and deservedly so, but I still find myself a larger percentage of MOC releases than any other company. I don't think I've ever bought an MOC title and regretted it. All the blind-buys turn out to be very happy surprises.

Re: MoC Forthcoming, Wishlist and Random Speculation
Agreed, I'm more careful with Arrow releases but MoC I'll happily blind-buy things. Of course, it helps they're constantly releasing films by directors I'm interested in...for example I watched MoC's Wild River the other day and absolutely loved it! Now one of my favourite American classics, just like that! They always pick the best stuff.Drucker wrote:Arrow is high profile these days, and deservedly so, but I still find myself a larger percentage of MOC releases than any other company. Re: MoC Forthcoming, Wishlist and Random Speculation
Probably a silly question, but have there not been DVDs with numbers 117 and 118 yet?
Undeniably trivial, but my MoC list has a gap...

Re: MoC Forthcoming, Wishlist and Random Speculation
'Der Letzte Mann' seems to be out of stock in many places, so if you'll excuse some completely random speculation on my part, it's a possible indication that a Blu-ray may be on the way...

A brand new restoration of Marcel L'Herbier's L'inhumaine will be premiering in Paris next week, followed by a showing on Arte on May 4th. It seems like it would be a natural fit for MoC.

The June announcement of A LETTER TO THREE WIVES gives me hope that MoC also got LEAVE HER TO HEAVEN from Fox for later this year.

More Anthony Mann would be welcome too. If they can't wrestle The Man From Laramie from Sony UK, maybe they can get The Tall T and the Black Book from whoever has the UK rights for those. Black Book in particular would be an immediate buy.

The Tall T is Boetticher but you probably mean The Tall Target.

Eureka have strongly implied on Facebook that they have the new restoration of King Hu's A Touch of Zen, which is great news! I hope they picked up some other Taiwanese restorations while they were at it.

The past few years have seen these restored, among others:Orlac wrote:What other Taiwanese films have been restored?
Dust in the Wind (Hou Hsiao-Hsien)
A Time to Live, a Time to Die (Hou Hsiao-Hsien)
The Terrorizers (Edward Yang)
In Our Time (Edward Yang/Chang Yi/Ko I-Chen/Tao Te-Chen)
Rebels of the Neon God (Tsai Ming-liang)
Vive l'Amour (Tsai Ming-liang)
The River (Tsai Ming-liang)
Growing Up (Chen Kun-hou)
Most have been released on Blu-Ray with English subtitles in Taiwan, but I would love to see MoC release them nonetheless. However, they're restorations carried out by the Central Motion Pictures Corporation while these King Hu's were done by the new Taiwan Film Institute as part of the Taiwan Cinema Digital Restoration Project

Where did you see that?
Really wish they'd been able to license The Apartment, as the sound on the US edition is really annoying/distracting.

There's an Amazon listing though it isn't specified whether it's Eureka or MoC.
