Still haven't seen the film, so can't comment on how well it represents it, but I can certainly say that I am not a fan of that cover...

It doesn't, at all. I really didn't want to come out again with guns blazing but are they kidding with that cover?!criterion10 wrote:Still haven't seen the film, so can't comment on how well it represents it, but I can certainly say that I am not a fan of that cover...

I'm not sure what it represents in the film, but it's clearly based off the maps showing the devastation of Hiroshima (with the two concentric white circles showing distances from the blast epicenter) while also recalling imagery of people's skin falling off their hands in the aftermath. [Warning: Graphic mockup from the Hiroshima Peace Museum]

Twelve years ago, the original Hiroshima Mon Amour DVD cover art spurred such brilliant forum chatter as, "Is that a hand over a boob or what?" "No, of course not." "Yes it is." [various body part speculation] "Have you ever actually seen a breast in real life?" etc.

I really like the Hiroshima cover. Great use of the map of the city after the bomb as a palm.

a warning would've been nice on that second link, jesus. I mean I know you described it, didn't know it was going to be *that* graphic.jindianajonz wrote:I'm not sure what it represents in the film, but it's clearly based off the maps showing the devastation of Hiroshima (with the two concentric white circles showing distances from the blast epicenter) while also recalling imagery of people's skin falling off their hands in the aftermath.

Pretty nice assortment of covers for this month. Intrigued as to why Moonrise Kingdom's cover hasn't been released yet. Has this delay ever happened before?

I think the original DVD cover of Hiroshima, mon amour is one of the best in the CC. I wish they've kept that cover for this re-issue.

Go back three or more years and it used to be reasonably common. The cover for The Thin Red Line comes to mind and there are others too.Newsnayr wrote:Pretty nice assortment of covers for this month. It happened a few months ago with the cover to The Night Porter.bdsweeney wrote:Go back three or more years and it used to be reasonably common. Sorry, I thought the fact that they were mock up using manikins would reduce the need for a warning, but I've gone back and added one to be safe.ryannichols7 wrote:a warning would've been nice on that second link, jesus. The Hiroshima Mon Amour cover update is beautiful. I think my favourite for this month is The Black Stallion so far, though I'll be looking forward to seeing how the Moonrise Kingdom cover turns out.

The new Hiroshima cover is great. Glad to see Criterion chose well.

I really love that Here Is Your Life cover. It's a perfect example of a cover greatly piquing my interest in a film that I know little to nothing about.
Minus Hiroshima, the rest are fine.

Criterion promotes their filmgrain integrity via the cover of Here is Your Life.

Re: Criterion & Eclipse Cover Art & Packaging Babble-on Vol.
The cover is certain to be an illustration by Eric Anderson, right? Probably something that incorporates the high treehouse or the beach.Newsnayr wrote:...Intrigued as to why Moonrise Kingdom's cover hasn't been released yet. Has this delay ever happened before?

Re: Criterion & Eclipse Cover Art & Packaging Babble-on Vol.
The other live action Anderson covers have been pleasant surprises with regard to the material chosen and in many cases (Royal Tenenbaums, Life Aquatic) the minimalism. Definitely psyched to see what they do for Moonrise Kingdom.

Re: Criterion & Eclipse Cover Art & Packaging Babble-on Vol.
Amazon.com has a Blu-ray only listing for The Big Chill up for 7/7/15, so that looks like the latest Dual release to get split up on reissue.
