Could someone clarify? Did the first blu-ray release have the cardboard packaging or plastic? I'm guessing cardboard because people are replacing it with plastic, but I'd like someone to confirm this. Also, I noticed someone mention the difference in the SDVD release having a thicker (longer?) booklet than the blu-ray.

I recently won a copy of "The Third Man" on blu-ray from eBay and it came in the original cardboard digipack. I was just wondering if anyone has an extra insert for the plastic cases that they might be willing to sell, or if anyone know's how I can have one printed? While I have nothing against the cardboard packaging, it would just be nice to have the insert to put into a Criterion plastic case so that all of my Criterion blu-ray's could be matching. Thank you.

Email Mulvaney. They may have an extra case lying around somewhere.

They won't. Your best bet is to keep looking on eBay.

Sell yours and use the money to buy one in a plastic case. Might even turn a profit.

Same here. I just kept putting off purchasing a new case and then all of a sudden they discontinued them.

Reliance MediaWorks is doing a new restoration on The Third Man, among others.

Hopefully Criterion could convince StudioCanal to let them release it again like with the Tati films and The Vanishing.

Currently listed as "temporarily out of stock" on Amazon. They are accepting orders for the low, low price of $39.95. It could be a mistake but why not give it a try?

I am trying so hard to not get my hopes up...but...maybe this means the SC ice is beginning to crack? Is that way too optimistic?

It's surely more likely that its all just an error or that they have across some unsold stock somewhere.

While I wouldn't hold my breath, there is some precedent for this: a couple years back, Amazon suddenly had some unsold stock of the Saura Eclipse, at that time going for a hundred bucks on the used market. I know that order got filled because my copy arrived, so I guess it's worth a shot, seeing as how there's literally nothing to lose

Speaking of Saura, the Eclipse set is also listed as "Temporarily out of stock" and available to order at $44.95.

Other Criterion OOPs like Army of Shadows and Leon Morin are listed as directly sold from Amazon as well What is happening??? The Saura's are released by Optimum in R2 right? So this doesn't seem to be a Canal related thing.

EDIT: Scratch that, didn't realize Canal used to be Optimum. Hmm.

Around that time -- late 2011 --several other long OOP Studio Canal licensed Criterion DVDs showed up in stock on Amazon at half off MSRP.

Just ordered the Saura set, I'll edit this with what happens.

Just received a delivery estimate from Amazon that's the same as for the Third Man Blu Ray. April 20 - May 4.

I received a delivery estimate from Amazon:

Monday, April 20, 2015 -Monday, May 4, 2015

It seems others are getting the same delivery window.

Found this write up about the upcoming Canal restoration looking "weird."

If true, that makes me sad. But also, conversely happy that my Criterion Blu-ray isn't suddenly totally out of date.
