At least what they're releasing is largely familiar poster art even though it contains some unwelcome design changes. It could've been so so so much worse:

I will forgive Lynch his crappy cover art preferences for what's inside the box 10 times out of 10.

Of the Mulholland Drive fan-made art, I'd have picked the top one in b/w. Ah well, at least we have the film in 4k.

I actually still think the Cries and Whispers cover wasn't absolutely terrible, unlike everyone else, but I agree, The Brood and Mulholland Drive covers are awful.

Honestly, except Kwaidan, they all look very uninspired. Except The Brood. It looks ugly.

As for Mulholland Dr, this is tremendously disappointing, but at least, they applied a diffusion filter and played stupidly with the "street signs" concept. They didn't even do it for A Special Day.

Mfunk, at least the two covers you posted look like they are functioning on one consistent idea. This is a cluttered and filtered mess.

I actually adore the cover art for The Brood. I find it striking, odd, and upsetting--not far at all from the mixture of feelings I had when I watched that particular scene in the film. I also have a strong suspicion that the proportions of her body are a sly (sacrilegious?) reference to Michelangelo's Pieta. I'm head over heels for it.

Conversely, I find the Kwaidan cover pretty nondescript and one-size-fits-all. It's been a while since I've seen it, but I don't really see how that cover fits Kwaidan better than any number of other horror films out there. (Open to correction if that image refers to a specific scene that I'm forgetting.)

I agree on both of those points, actually- the new Kwaidan is nice, don't get me wrong, and it's lovely to see a nod to the ink-drop opening credits, but it's a little easy, isn't it?

I LOVE The Brood, though! German expressionism is an odd style to mimic for it, but it's such a perfect fit to my eyes...

The top and bottom covers are far better than the final #-o

The scariest thing is the people who are calling the cover "nice" or "good"...

Or "lovely," as LQ just e-mailed to me in response. I'm fine with it, though, and think the reaction here is far too dramatic

It's been a while since I've seen The Brood, but isn't that cover kind of spoiling the ending?

I see Mulholland Dr comes with a book, maybe it's printed in a slip cover of some sort, with better art inside? Either way that cover better shimmer or be printed with diamonds in the ink or something. I think I prefer Midnight marauder's.

edit: nevermind, I see it's just taken from a book.

But they really rub it in by giving us exactly the same idea with all the menace and graphic interest drained from it.

Is the Mulholland Dr. cover some kind of conceptual joke none of us are getting?

Fits the mood of the film perfectly.
This is from the Criterion subreddit about Muholland Drive's cover, thoughts?

The top and bottom covers are significantly better than the one Criterion chose. Sadly, these alternatives do nothing but underscore the horror.

This is the reaction I expected after learning Billy Ray isn't on the cover art.

People are suggesting MD's cover could be lenticular or holographic...

How about printed on chemically treated card that spontaneously combusts when you take off the shrinkwrap, revealing some decent artwork underneath?
