MisterLime has said that Godard's King Lear is with another label and I'd be very surprised if that was anyone other than Criterion.

I haven't seen the film yet, but it seems only logical to follow up their release of Every Man for Himself with a Godard film like this one.

Pulp and Phaedra were nixed by Mister Lime as forthcoming from other labels, wonder if Criterion has the Dassin?

Heck, maybe they have both—there's still a Mike Hodges phantom page that I don't believe has been accounted for. Pulp seems more likely than a WB-licensed title like Get Carter (which Warner released less than two years ago) or The Terminal Man, or a comparatively hard sell like A Prayer for the Dying. I'd hoped it was a clue for Croupier, but Hen's Tooth put paid to that.

King Lear sounds more like something I would expect from Arrow Video. They DID say they were working on a dystopian film...I kind of hope it's The Apple.

Would love to see Criterion do a Billy Wilder's Europe boxed set with One Two Three, Irma la Douce, and Avanti! (yeah, I know that Irma was filmed on a Hollywood backlot). As far as I know neither Kino nor Twilight Time have picked up any of those, right? Three of the most fun Wilders sitting unacquired by the usual MGM parasites surely means...something. Poor Domino having to pick up One Two Three just to get Irma though.

MGM are issuing a new restoration and theatrical release of Blue Velvet for it's 30th Anniversary. I wouldn't be surprised if it was followed by a Criterion release. The new theatrical poster already looks criterion-y.

Amazing how its had two fairly substantial theatrical re-releases so far (the other was for its 20th anniversary).

Park Circus is issuing the 30th anniv. re-release, not MGM. and they confirmed that this is actually not a new restoration, but the current /old one.

UPDATE: I previously mentioned a newly restored version would be screened, but Park Circus Films confirmed to me it’s an existing digital print from their archives. Still awesome!

They also advertised Contempt as a new restoration when it wasn't.

Perhaps they mean most recent, instead of brand spanking new. Either way, they shouldn't advertise as such.

Anyway, I still think Criterion has a chance to release Blue Velvet. Park Circus has theatrically distributed a bunch of titles that Criterion have released according to their web-site.

Some Cohen Media teaser trailer indicates they've restored /plan to release King of Hearts.

Did MGM's rights lapse (this seems to be happening often lately) and Cohen picked them up? Or did they start licensing from MGM? This was another one of those rumored "confirmed" titles that Criterion had licensed from MGM (from that list CriterionCast posted that seemingly was confirmed by others). Guess Criterion waited too long on that one. Too bad, as it could've been another former laserdisc upgrade.

Per the FilmStruck news for today, it seems that Criterion/Janus now own Tom Jones outright. I guess MGM is just letting everything they can lapse. Still no news about the other potential titles (unless anyone's heard if they ended up elsewhere):
