aggggh now the real question is do i cut my losses and cancel the pre-order or double down and use this as an incentive to invest in a region-free player....Emak-Bakia wrote:It's also worth pointing out that, on the same Facebook post revealing the artwork, Arrow shared this tidbit: "Please be aware that owing to a new contractual obligation we have unfortunately had to amend to region-coding to REGION B ONLY."

Re: The Jacques Rivette Collection
Nice artworks! This just proved that there is somebody who is actually taking time to check all our comments and remarks. I am honestly glad to see this set turning out to be a digipak. I am gonna keep my fingers crossed for the other future upcoming jumbo sets to secure the same fate (in terms of packaging). Thanks a lot, Arrow.

Artwork looks very era appropriate and classy to me. Any discussion of contractual agreements sounds funny, as we have no idea what the contract stipulates or how such things work. Anyway...my usual mantra...You can get a region free player for less than half the cost of this set.

Too bad about the region code. This is dual format, correct? I want to at least punish my computer with this.

Bummer on the region change. Buying the set was a big splurge for me, so without a region free player, I guess I need to cancel. At least it'll mean extra money for the Apu Trilogy in November.

Not sure what type of player everyone is using, but my Region "A" Panasonic Blu-Ray player has a simple remote hack that bypasses all region lockings. Always worth a shot to see if your player has a similar interface.

Who knows the specifics? Perhaps Carlotta weren't entirely happy about Arrow announcing a more complete Region Free set, and part of the deal was that Arrow would handle the Region B release of Out 1?Ribs wrote:But surely the contract Arrow signed should have already been taken care of? I don't see why a new vendor/distributor signing on abroad should change the deal Arrow had theoretically already made.
It really doesn't matter for me because I can still play it but changing this and making some people need to cancel their order is less than ideal to my mind.
Now that we have this when do we think we'll get the proper packshot for Yoshida? I'm expecting it to be a similar setup but I'm surprised we saw this first.
As for Yoshida, I'd imagine it'd be similar to the recent Arrow sets - The Long Good Friday/Mona Lisa and Videodrome. Hard outer box (thick stock, like MoC sets), thin digipacks within (holding one or two discs each) and a hardcover book. I imagine they'll do the same for Hellraiser too, but Battles Without Honour and Humanity and Edgar Allan Poe's Black Cats will contain Amarays as most of the films contained are being released as separate editions.

The latter. It would probably cost you less than a box set like this, and way less than trying to pick it up in a few years time after it's out of print and nobody else has released those additional films in English-friendly HD editions.pzadvance wrote:aggggh now the real question is do i cut my losses and cancel the pre-order or double down and use this as an incentive to invest in a region-free player....Emak-Bakia wrote:It's also worth pointing out that, on the same Facebook post revealing the artwork, Arrow shared this tidbit: "Please be aware that owing to a new contractual obligation we have unfortunately had to amend to region-coding to REGION B ONLY."

Very frustrating regarding the region coding. Now I need to decide if the DVD's alone are worth $120. I have no intention of ever buying a region free bluray player.
Also, who is Stephane Tchal Gadjieff?

The producer for all of (and only) these Rivette films, which helps to explain why these four in particular have been packaged together.

Re: The Jacques Rivette Collection
I'm shocked at all these people hanging out on this message board claiming they will never upgrade to Region Free blu-ray. And I'm just thinking about all the times I knew that I was only going to get a blu-ray of newer films, or colorful films, or films with great special effects, the rest I could keep the DVDs. Or those times I needed one more copy of an album on CD/Vinyl, and I would never need another re-press/180G version/SACD of [insert album here].
If you buy this set now and end up never getting around to watching it, you'll be able to sell it in a year for at least your money's worth. If you don't buy it now, and it sells out, and you want it down the line, you'll have to pay twice as much for it.

I would still buy this box even if it didn't have discs in it.

It reminds me of when I had a VCR and they started releasing awesome DVDs - I quickly got a DVD player.

I've just never gotten on the bluray bandwagon. The only reason I have a PS3 is because it was given to me as a hand-me-down.
Nevertheless, I've decided keep my purchase of the Rivette Collection and watch the DVD's. I still want to support Arrow on this release. We've been asking for a release like this for over a decade, and Criterion never delivered. So I want to spend and support!

The format has been around for nearly a decade. At this point that's a bit like somebody in the 50s saying they're not interested in buying Ella Fitzgerald's Cole Porter Songbook because they've never got into this newfangled 33 RPM LP fad.Petty Bourgeoisie wrote:I've just never gotten on the bluray bandwagon.

To read this kind of thing in a home theater forum is mind-boggling, bordering on offensive.Petty Bourgeoisie wrote:Very frustrating regarding the region coding. Now I need to decide if the DVDs alone are worth $120. I have no intention of ever buying a region free bluray player.

I didn't get any DVD player until I could find an affordable multi-region DVD player... ;-}

I was the same with Blu-ray. I'd built up a nice DVD collection of Criterions and when I jumped to Blu-ray in 2010 I knew I'd be unhappy if I was unable to continue. So it was multi region from day one.

I strive to be a minimalist. Not Kidding.
Here is my complete collection of Blurays:
Ben Hur
Ten Commandments
The Road Warrior
Gladiator
An Autumn Afternoon
I would double dip if the following received a restoration and bluray release:
Alphaville
Anything by Rivette

Just buy a cheap Region B BD player from Amazon.fr, .it, .es, .de or .co.uk.Noiradelic wrote:Current cost of reliable region free bluray player: considerably more than Rivette set.Zot! wrote:Current cost of Rivette set: $114.78
