The Phoenix cover is the best one they've done in awhile, imho. I could take or leave the rest, but don't think they're particularly bad.

I don't like to be critical of artists and designers, as I think it's a very subjective thing. But I find the Stillman covers to be rather awful. The Hawks one also falls short IMO - but it could grow on me. The others I like just fine

Chris, I'm surprised not to see packaging photos of Inside Llewyn Davis less than a week from its release. Has anyone posted photos of this online yet to anyone's knowledge?

Still a day away from release and still no photos anywhere, but I received confirmation from someone with a copy that this is a normal case with one of those fold-out inserts. Dang. Deserved better.

Indeed. I haven't seen pictures yet, but Beaver's take on the Troell set indicates it's in the standard case too, despite being a set of two lengthy films. Was really hoping for a digipak for that one.

He copies and pastes from other pages so I wouldn't put too much stock in that. He would have more than likely only received check discs and not the finished product yet.

Yuck. I might pick up Brief Encounter because I've heard good things about it, but I really have zero interest in the others. Looks like I will save some money this Feb. through April.

Normal case, interior is just off-white with no images. Fold-out insert with a decent looking mini-poster. All-in-all, the design is rather disappointing, in my opinion.

I am disappointed that The Emigrants/The New Land is not a special packaging of some sort. Oh well!

Any joke aside, I love the front cover of Llewyn Davis, though I already have the French Studio Canal release (which includes already some extras, most of all the concert on a dedicated BD with lossless sound) so I'm not going to double dip.

The last two are Mike Zoss Productions (AKA the Coen brothers) and Nonesuch Records, and based on the credits block, the second is Anton Capital Entertainment.

The titling on the cover for Brief Encounter's been changed:

And the framing of the image is also more conventional. The mist supposedly coming from the steam engine has been lowered and reduced in scope, ruining the subtle, diaphanous layering of the original design. All the changes are downgrades, to my eyes. But I can see how they might make the design more accessible to your standard consumer. The original design was just a whole lot better, in my opinion.
