Incredible, four must-buys! Bells Are Ringing is a minor musical but Minnelli's direction elevates the poor songs (and the best number, a single-shot affair, is relegated to the deleted scenes)

I realize now I live in a world where I am surprised a Warner title is actually being released by Warner and not Criterion. Such crazy times! With Asphalt Jungle and Mildred Pierce I figured this definitely be coming from them. I'll take it, but again I'm let down another LaserDisc commentary might not make it over.

It's been a long while since I've been really excited about a slew of announcements from them.

If they keep up the four titles a month rate during the rest of 2017 it could really be a new banner year for them. 48 titles + Criterion releases in a single year - one can only dream.

Little Rural Riding Hood is included in the specs of Battlefield. Any possibility that it will be from a HD master?

You're all welcome for that one. Picked it up for my wife on DVD over the holidays.

Tooze on Battleground. Yet again:

There are optional English subtitles in a gross yellow 'capitals'-only font.

I dunno why #-o

That they're new summary subs instead of direct transcriptions is far more annoying

Both together look like a nightmare.

Does this subtitle thing apply only to Battleground?

I watch On Dangerous Ground last night, and it also has the yellow subs.

Hopefully the upcoming When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth has normal white subs. Please let this be the case!

I watched the Battleground blu-ray yesterday and it turned out Little Rural Riding Hood was truely HD (a first for Tex Avery?) with restored sound and a reasonably sharp and stable image. The only issue is that the image appears to be unrestored, with many speckles and scratches, but those I can live with for now. Please Warner put yourself together and get more Avery cartoons out as soon as possible.

Pretty sure they'll be white.

Color film = white subs
B&W film = yellow subs

I meant the capital fonts + "summary" subtitles instead of direct transcription thing.
I am not bothered so much by the color.

Nice choice, I guess it's not high profile enough to make waves but the Keenan Wynn blackface number left me thinking Warners would never get around to this one (even though of course it's in the service of the film's best number and is stridently anti-racist)

Also I think we can be certain Brigadoon is next, given that it would complete the upgrades for the Broadway Warners box
