3 "black" films, one of which is focused on women and one focused on gay men, out of 9 is not diverse. It is more diverse, but it's still not really quite hitting a threshold where the overwhelming majority of the films nominated are no longer traditional, "white" movies. It's progress, but giving a big prize towards these other people with personal problems is not a step in the right direction if that's the narrative they're pushing

It reflects more than triple the actual racial diversity of the United States, in which only 1 out of every 8 Americans is black

I actually picked it for my Gold Derby ballot. I also predicted La La Land underperforming and losing Best Pic and Director-- post-Trump nothing is certain

The nomination for one of 13 Hours's four sound mixers has been rescinded

I think this guy holds the record for most nominations-no-wins so if 13 Hours ends up winning they better put him on suicide watch.

Nope I was wrong it was Hacksaw Ridge's Kevin O'Connell. Though now it could be this guy.

I don't think the technical awards we've got so far reflects badly on La La Land. Now, if it loses Score and Song, then it should be concerned about its perceived favored position for Picture, Director and Actress.

I'd be stunned if La La Land's mediocrity goes unrewarded, but I'll be thrilled should Huppert win tonight. Stone's performance really didn't do much except carry Gosling.

The opening was Timberlake performing "Can't Stop the Feeling". Kimmel's monologue was not particularly memorable but fine.

It's an impossible position to be in, but I think Kimmel after a shaky start, understandable nerves and a little too much of the Damon bit has done really well.
